Accident at Arthur, ONT


1997-10-08: Aircraft overran runway and went off the end. Aircraft hit trees, suffering substantial damage to the wings. No reported injuries. Ops. Impact -- none. TSB UPDATE: The aircraft approached the 1900 foot private strip and did a low and over to determine the wind direction and if the runway was clear of obstacles. The wind was from 300 degrees gusting to 25 knots and runway 23 was selected for the landing. The flaps were lowered to 25 degrees and throttle reduced to 1700 rpm. The approach was high and the touchdown was just past the midfield point of the strip and the aircraft bounced delaying braking action. The aircraft went off the end of the runway and struck trees resulting in substantial damage to the wings.
