, enroute from Hearst to Moosonee, called on Moosonee RCO to pass along distress call from C-FFVZ
had landed on Detour Lake, struck a rock, and was sinking. Seven people on board. Damaged float. Injuries unknown. Ops. Impact -- unknown. TSB UPDATE: The De havilland DHC-3 and pilot were dispatched to detour lake to pick up six campers. Upon arrival at Detour lake the pilot conducted an aerial inspection of the planned departure route. The water was tea coloured and with the wave action the pilot did not observe any rocks in the landing and take-off area. After loading the passengers the pilot taxied the aircraft an adequate distance and turned it directly into the wind (NW at 15g20 kts) for take-off. During the take-off run and as the float equipped de Havilland DHC-3 was coming up on the step the left float struck a submerged rock and the aircraft immediately stopped. The aircraft came to rest on the left float which was on top of the rock. The pilot and passengers donned life vests and were picked up by a northern helicopter operator. The De havilland DHC-3 sustained substantial damage to the left float, left forward and rear float strut, left float brace and the left wing strut.
