Incident at WINNIPEG / ST. ANDREWS MB (CYAV)

Summary

1997-09-15: The student pilot had taxied the Aeronca Champ aircraft to the edge of the runway awaiting his departure clearance, when a gust of wind raised the tail of the aircraft. The aircraft came up onto its nose and the propeller contacted the runway. The pilot had been sitting with the control stick forward when the tail came up. The pilot was not injured. Runway 22 was closed until 2040Z. No other aircraft were inconvenienced. Tower observed weather at the time of the occurrence was CAVOK, winds variable 270-310 degrees at 10 to 15 knots.
