Incident at PICKLE LAKE ON (CYPL)

Summary

1997-08-08: The pilot of C-FSLL, a wheel equipped Piper PA31, reported engine difficulties 40 miles west of Pickle Lake. As the aircraft was climbing through 11,000 feet, manifold pressure dropped below 20". The pilot elected to return to Pickle Lake Airport. As the aircraft was descending through 5000', the manifold pressure returned to normal. The aircraft landed without further incident at Pickle Lake. Maintenance ground ran and test flew the aircraft but was unable to duplicate the loss of power. It is suspected that carbon entered the density controller which opened the waste gate.
