Incident at WINNIPEG / JAMES ARMSTRONG RICHARDSON INTL MB (CYWG)

Summary

1997-07-18: The pilot of a Swearingen Metro II aircraft on final approach for runway 31 at Winnipeg International Airport reported an unsafe nose landing gear indication. The aircraft flew past the tower, where the crew was informed that the main landing gear appeared to be down, but that the nose gear was up and the nose gear doors appeared closed. A missed approach was conducted and the aircraft proceeded south-west to perform the emergency landing gear extension procedure. ERS was placed on standby, and the aircraft returned for landing on runway 36. The aircraft landed without further incident. Air Traffic Control asked the crew if they wished to remain on the runway to pin the landing gear, but the crew declined the offer and taxied to the apron.
