Incident at WINNIPEG / ST. ANDREWS MB (CYAV) (Weather - other, Aerodrome - operations)
Summary
1996-10-25: St. Andrews Airport was struck by a heavy thunderstorm and associated squall. Visibility was zero with heavy rain showers, with wind observed from the south-west at 90 knots. A window was blown out in the tower building (lower level), and the tower was evacuated from 2335Z to 2340Z. Three aircraft were observed damaged with one aircraft obstructing runway 36L. One hangar was destroyed. All tower frequencies were unserviceable, with possible antennae damage. The rotating beacon was blown off of the tower. Damage assessment was still taking place at the time of this report.
