Incident at 3 miles SE St. Pierre, Manitoba
Summary
1996-10-22: The Hughes 269C Helicopter, C-FQVV, was being flown in a search for a missing person. The pilot turned the helicopter abruptly downwind to search down a river bank. The pilot experienced loss of tail rotor effectiveness and the helicopter rotated through 360 degrees. The helicopter entered a high rate of descent and despite the application of full power landed heavily in swampy ground. The skids of the helicopter were broken but little other damage was sustained. The two occupants were uninjured. The winds were reported to be strong and gusty. The driver of an RCMP vehicle that responded reported difficulty driving because of the wind conditions.
