Incident at DRYDEN REGIONAL ON (CYHD) (Incursion - runway - vehicle)

Summary

1996-10-22: The operator of a front end loader was working on the north side of runway 29 at the Dryden airport. The pilot of the Aero Commander 500 began his departure from runway 29 a routine Fire Patrol. Take-off power was set and the aircraft began to accelerate as the front end loader drove onto the runway from North to South. The pilot rejected the Take-off and stopped the aircraft. The operator of the loader had forgotten to turn on the VHF radio which was selected to a frequency of 122.6. There where numerous aircraft movements and the operator did not see the Aero Commander 500 on the button of Runway 29. The loader entered and then crossed 29/11 at approximately 1800 feet from the button of runway 29.
