Incident at Bearskin Lake, Ontario

Summary

1996-05-15: While taxiing for take-off, the right elevator of a DHC-2 Beaver aircraft struck a snowmobile that was abandoned on the frozen lake surface. The pilot reported that he was having difficulties taxiing the aircraft due to 90 degree crosswind and did not see the snowmobile. The snowmobile's cowling was knocked off and the aircraft's elevator outer hinge point was torn free from the stabilizer. The company will be sending an engineer to inspect the aircraft and replace the elevator.
