Incident at 8NM West of Southport, Manitoba

Summary

1996-05-08: The crew of the Slingsby T67C Firefly aircraft, registration C-GSTS, was conducting an aerobatic flight training manoeuvre 8 nautical miles west of Southport when the engine lost about a litre of oil, obscuring part of the windscreen. The pilot requested that the Emergency Response Service stand by; he returned to Southport and landed without further incident. Maintenance found that the engine oil filler cap had not been secured. They replenished the engine oil, secured the filler cap, and returned the aircraft to service.
