Accident at KINDERSLEY REGIONAL SK (CYKY)

Summary

1996-02-22: The pilot of the RAF 2000 gyroplane, C-FJSQ, was manoeuvring the aircraft for take-off on the runway. The wind was a 20-25 knot crosswind. As the pilot began the take-off, the wind moved the aircraft sideways and the wheels contacted the snow banks at the side of the runway. The aircraft rolled and the rotor blades struck the snow. The pilot was unable to stabilize the aircraft and the gyroplane rolled onto its side. The rotor blade and the propeller shattered during the roll over. Other damage to the aircraft was minor. The pilot and passenger were not injured.
