Incident at 46 E Shamattawa

Summary

1996-02-19: While conducting a patrol of a winter road between Shamattawa and Fort Severn, the pilot of the ski equipped aircraft experienced a sudden loss of engine RPM and power. The pilot conducted a successful landing into a swampy area, approximately ¾ mile north of the winter road. The pilot activated the ELT and was located by RCC Edmonton approximately 6 hours later. An internal failure of #2 cylinder is suspected. The cylinder will be retained for examination by TSB personnel.
