Incident at Thunder Bay

Summary

1996-01-30: Northwest Airlines flight 179 (A320) was about 130 NM east of Thunder Bay, enroute from Boston, Mass. to Seattle, Wash. at FL390 when the #1 engine oil trmperature began to increase. Thrust was reduced to 70% and a/c diverted to Minneapolis, Minn.. Minn. tower alerted ERS, and crew landed a/c without further incident. The crew of 5 and 63 passengers were not injured. Maintenance examined #1 engine and found a faulty oil temperature sensor. Sensor was replaced and a/c returned to service.
