Incident at SASKATOON / JOHN G. DIEFENBAKER INTL SK (CYXE)

Summary

1996-01-31: Aircraft departed Saskatoon on a scheduled flight to Regina when the left engine fuel flow warning activated. The crew decided to return to Saskatoon where the aircraft was inspected by company maintenance. Aircraft was released as serviceable, and departed for Regina. Enroute, the fuel warning activated briefly, then cleared and the flight proceeded as planned. No further difficulty was encountered. Company engineers report that ice crystals had partially obstructed the left wing tank fuel filter screen, activating the warning. They advise that the fuel system incorporates a bypass system, whereby fuel flow is maintained in the event of a complete filter blockage. The manufacturer is monitoring the situation under its technical follow up program.
