Incident at North Atlantic (Communication navigation surveillance/air traffic system)

1997-11-18: Aircraft was enroute New York from Amsterdam. Position reporting showed aircraft to be on course up to 50W. Aircraft later identified on radar and proved to be 115 to 120 nm off course. Navigation error resulted in a loss of separation with at least one other aircraft. The crew of RJA 261 reported that the flight had progressed normally up to 50W but that problems had developed with both inertial navigation systems (INS) after that. Gander ATC has filed a Gross Navigation Error report. TSB case closed.
