Incident at Gander Ocean

Summary

1997-09-16: PHBUL, B747, ROYAL DUTCH AIRLINES Both aircraft were flying identical routes at the same altitude with AZA 664 in the lead. They were assigned specific speeds in order to maintain the required longitudinal separation. Despite this, the longitudinal separation decayed and it was necessary to clear Alitalia to FL310 in order to resolve the conflict. Alitalia later confirmed that he had been flying a lower speed setting than cleared. A regulatory infraction has been filed.
