Incident at Goose Bay

Summary

1997-07-08: Aircraft on floats on flight plan from Goose Bay water aerodrome to Ann Marie Lake and return. Shortly after departure aircraft advised that they were going to have to land due to some problems, but they did not indicate the nature of the problem. Aircraft landed safely on the Churchill Falls River about 3NM from the airport at 1158Z. TSB evaluating.TSB ASIS notification indicates maintenance found the number 3 cylinder had failed when the exhaust valve separated and exited the cylinder. TSB case closed.
