Accident at LAC PROVOST


1993-09-05: C206 SUPER SKYWAGON C-GPMN - WHILE TAXIING ON LAC PROVOST, A/C CAME UP ABRUPTLY ON A ROCK. BOTH COMPARTMENTS OF 1 FLOAT WERE TORN OPEN. IF THE PILOT HAD TRIED TO TAKE-OFF, THE A/C WOULD HAVE CAPSIZED. 2 SOB, NO INJURIES. SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. TIME = 1700Z. ACTION = NAH. A privately owned Mooney M20M was on an IFR flight in the Ottawa/Rockcliffe (CYRO) area. Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft entered the Gatineau (CYND) mandatory frequency (MF) area without contacting the flight service specialist. The pilot later contacted the Ottawa (CYOW) terminal control unit (TCU) to obtain IFR authorization. Impact: The Mooney M20M reached the same altitude as a privately owned Cessna 150 and came within 1/2 NM of the Cessna, which was on a VFR flight in the Gatineau control zone.
