1993-07-20: DHC8 C-FWBB + CL-600-2A12 - C-FWBB DEPARTED FROM DOWNSVIEW AIRPORT, VFR HEADING NORTH, & HAD INSTRUCTIONS TO MAINTAIN RWY HEADING & STAY BELOW 2,500' ASL. PILOT REPORTED AUTOPILOT FAILURE & THE A/C CLIMBED TO APPROX. 2800' ASL BEFORE THE PILOT STOPPED THE ASCENT. N373G ALERTED THE CREW TO TRAFFIC BELOW & CLIMBING, & INDICATED N373G SHOULD DESCEND. ATC PASSED TRAFFIC INFO. AS VFR & BELOW, RECOMMENDING A DELAY IN THE DESCENT. TCAS INDICATION WENT FROM 600' TO 0', & THE PILOT CLIMBED TO APPROX. 3,900'. N373G WAS IN SOLID IFR CONDITIONS; C-FWBB WAS IN SCATTERED WITH OVERCAST ABOVE. A/C CAME WITHIN 200' & 0.7 MILES OF EACH OTHER. TIME - 1210Z. ACTION - PAX PAH PAE TSB IKO-PIA.
