Incident at MUSKOKA

Summary

1998-05-20: PA28 CHEROKEE C-GGFB - WHILE TXING SOUTHBOUND ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF RWY18 TO DEPART RWY 36, THE PILOT OBSERVED ANOTHER A.C THAT HAD LANDED, ADVISED CLEAR, AND WAS TAXIING TOWARDS HIM. TO AVOID CONFLICT, THE PILOT CROSSED OVER TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RWY, AND WHILE MAINTAINING VISUAL CONTACT WITH THE A.C, INADVERTENTLY STRUCK A PRECISION APPROACH PATH INDICATOR (PAPI) WITH THE LEFT WING. THE A/C WAS SHUT DOWN AND DAMAGE EXAMINED. THE PILOT THEN MISTAKENLY FLEW BACK TO BUTTONVILLE WITH THE LEADING EDGE OF THE LEFT WING SUBSTANTIALLY DENTED AMD PUNCTURED AT THE STALL STRIP AND WARNING INDICATOR LOCATION. OPS IMPACT - NONE. TIME = 1520Z. ACTION = PAH, PAP, TSB.
