Summary

1998-05-08: PA24 COMANCHE C-FKTR - WHILE ENROUTE CLEAR OF CLOUD UNDER IFR FROM 20 NM EAST OF SIMCOE VOR, DIRECT TO BUTTONVILLE, THE A/C ENCOUNTERED FREEZING RAIN WHICH BEGAN TO ADHERE TO THE A/C. THE PILOT REQUESTED AND DIVERTED TO LBPIA DUE TO WINDSCREEN ICING, DESTINATION RWY LENGTH AND CONDITIONS. WHILE BEING VECTORED FOR RWY 06L, THE PILOT EXPRESSED CONCERN ABOUT THE RATE OF ICE ACCUMULATION, AND WAS CHANGED TO RWY 15. THE A/C LANDED SAFELY WITH NO CFR STANDING BY. THE PILOT REQUIRED ASSISTANCE TO TAXI THE A/C BECAUSE SIGNIFICANT ICE ACCUMULATION ON THE WINDSCREEN RESTRICTED VISIBILITY. OPS IMPACT - UNKNOWN. TIME = 0600Z. ACTION = PAH, PAR, PAP, TSB, IKO-PIA.
