Accident at ALBAN (Aerodrome - runway or taxiway surface condition)

Summary

1998-05-08: ULTR FP101 C-IHQF - DEPARTING A/C COULD NOT GET AIRBORNE DUE TO SOFT SNOW. A WING HIT A BARBED WIRE FENCE, THE A/C NOSED IN AND FLIPPED OVER, COMING TO A STOP 50 FT AWAY. THE PILOT (LONE OCCUPANT) SUFFERED A BROKEN NOSE AND CUT HIS INDEX FINGER. DAMAGE TO THE WINGS, NOSE, AND FUSELAGE. OPS IMPACT - UNKNOWN. TIME = 1345Z. ACTION = PAH, PAR, TSB. TSB UPDATE: During the take-off run, the Fisher FP101 ultralight aircraft did not get airborne because of the soft snow. The bumpy runway surface made it difficult to steer, and the aircraft veered to the right, striking the barbed wire fence with the right wing. The aircraft came to rest on its nose. The pilot suffered a broken nose and cut finger.
