1998-01-20: B737 CDN496 & B737 CDN905 - CDN496 ENROUTE YVR TO YYZ AT FL330. A SECOND A/C, CDN905 WAS ENROUTE YOW YYC VIA J500 AT FL310. CONTROLLER PASSED TRAFFIC TO BOTH A/C WHEN THEY WERE 20 MILES APART. AT A DISTANCE OF 7 MILES APART, TCAS IN CDN905 ISSUED AN ADVISORY TO CLIMB. CDN905 DESCEND TO FL310 AFTER 2 A/C PASSED EACH OTHER ND CONTROLLER CONFIMED THAT THEY WERE CLEAR. CDN AIRLINES PLANS TO CHANGE THE SUSPECT TRANSPONDER. TIME = 2326Z.
