Incident at COLE BAY

Summary

1997-12-17: HB04 C-FBWR - AFTER RE-FUELLING THE HELICOPTER, THE MASTER SWITCH WAS TURNED ON TO CHECK THE FUEL QUANTITY. A/C MAINTENANCE ENGINEER HEARD A POP & NOTICED SMOKE & FLAME COMING OUT OF THE ELECTRICAL RELAY COMPARTMENT. THE ENGINEER INDICATED THAT A SMALL AMOUNT OF FUEL HAD BEEN SPILLED DOWN THE SIDE OF THE A/C DURING THE RE-FUELLING PROCESS. A/C WAS BADLY DAMAGED BY THE FIRE IN THE AREA OF THE ELECTRICAL COMPARTMENT & THE COMPONENTS WERE DESTROYED. TIME - 1500Z. ACTION - NIL.
