Incident at ASSEAN LAKE
Summary
1997-12-17: HB4 C-GSHJ - BELL 206B HELICOPTER WAS ON CONTRACT & WAS BEING USED TO TRANSPORT PERSONNEL CONDUCTING WATER-LEVEL SURVEYS. PILOT COULD NOT USE HIS NORMAL LANDING SITE BECAUSE THE LEVEL OF THE WATER IN THE LAKE WAS HIGHER THAN NORMAL. PILOT WAS IN PARTIAL HOVER, WITH TOES OF A/C SHID GEAR RESTING ON SHORELINE OF LAKE. 1 PAX REMAINED SEATED IN THE FRONT OF THE HELI. AS A SECOND PAX WAS RETRIEVING A PORTABLE COMPUTER FROM THE BACK OF THE MACHINE. SUDDENLY THE PILOT SENSED THAT THE ANTI-TORQUE ROTOR BECAME INEFFECTIVE. AS THE PILOT THROTTLED BACK, THE HELI. ROTATED THROUGH 360 DEGREES THEN CAME TO REST IN AN UPRIGHT ATTITUDE ON THE SHORE LINE. NO INJURIES. SUSPECTED DAMAGE. TIME - 2020Z. ACTION - NIL.
