Incident at SPLIT LAKE

Summary

1997-12-17: HB4 C-GQQT - PILOT LANDED BELL 206 HELICOPTER ON THE ROAD ADJACENT TO THE MANITOBA TELEPHONE SYSTEM EQUIPMENT BUILDING TO DROP OFF A TELEPHONE EMPLOYEE. THE LANDING AREA USED IS ALSO PART OF THE LOCAL ROAD SYSTEM . PILOT NOTICED A TRUCK COMING TOWARD HIM ON THE ROAD & DECIDED TO HOVER-TAXI THE HELICOPTER CLEAR OF THE ROAD. WHILE MANOEUVRING, THE MAIN ROTOR STRUCK A TELEPHONE CABLE. THE HELICOPTER LANDED HARD CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE REAR LANDING GEAR SADDLE MOUNT AREA. NO INJURIES. TIME - 2100Z. ACTION - NIL.
