1996-09-06: C402 AWT423 C-FHDN - ENROUTE YWG-POPLAR RIVER WHEN HYDRAULIC WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED & PILOT SAW & SMELLED SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT. PILOT DECLARED EMERGENCY, SHUT DOWN ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT & THE HEATER, & DIVERTED TO GIMLI & LANDED WITHOUT FURTHUR INCIDENT. MAINTENANCE FOUND A LEAK IN THE HYDRAULIC LINE WHICH ALLOWED FLUID TO DRIP ON THE JANITROL HEATER. PILOT & 6 PAX ON BOARD. TIME = 1530Z.
