Incident at GREATER MONCTON ROMEO LEBLANC INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

A CanLink Aviation Diamond DA 20-C1 (C-FJXD) on a local flight from Moncton, NB (CYQM) was instructed to climb runway heading, not above 1500? and cleared for takeoff Runway 29 while a WestJet Boeing 737-8CT (C-FKRK / WJA481) from CYQM to Toronto, ON (CYYZ) was backtracking for departure off Runway 24. The instruction was reconfirmed with the departing aircraft after the pilot did not read back the restrictions. C-FJXD was observed turning left onto the departure path of Runway. WJA481 was delayed several minutes in position while C-FJXD was vectored away from the departure path.

Incident at GREATER MONCTON ROMEO LEBLANC INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

A WestJet Boeing 737-8CT (C-GWBL/WJA481) from Moncton, NB (CYQM) to Toronto, ON (CYYZ) departed Runway 24 and reported a possible bird strike. The runway was inspected and no remains were found. The aircraft was advised that the inspection resulted in no remains being found.

At 1104Z, a WestJet Boeing 737-7CT (C-GWJF / WJA481) from Moncton, NB (CYQM) to Toronto, ON (CYYZ) overshot Runway 05 due to an unstable approach. Aircraft landed at 1115Z without further incident.

Incident at MONTRÉAL / PIERRE ELLIOTT TRUDEAU INTL QC (CYUL) (TCAS alert)

JZA8722, a de Havilland Dash 8 operated by Air Canada Jazz, was on an IFR flight from Ottawa (CYOW) to Montréal/Trudeau (CYUL). At 2007Z, the crew reported having received a traffic alert and collision avoidance system resolution advisory (TCAS RA) while they were descending to 8 000 ft. The traffic was WJA481, a Boeing 767 operated by Westjet which was in rapid climb to 7 000 ft; the traffic had not been exchanged. The paths of the two aircraft were not supposed to merge the radar targets. JZA8722 reacted by pulling up from 8 100 ft to 8 500 ft. No impact on ATC operations.

WJA481, a Boeing 737 operated by WestJet, was IFR from Montreal/Trudeau (CYUL) to Toronto/Pearson (CYYZ). Upon takeoff, the crew did not follow SID TRUDO1, which it had received and read back. The aircraft was observed following KIPAX 3. No impact on ATC operations.

Incident at TORONTO / LESTER B. PEARSON INTL ON (CYYZ)

The WestJet Airlines Ltd. Boeing 737-600 series aircraft (operating as flight WJA481) was nearing the conclusion of a scheduled IFR flight from Montréal (PETIA) (CYUL) to Toronto (LBPIA) (CYYZ). NAV CANADA staff at Toronto ACC advised that the aircraft was observed to deviated from its assigned altitude of 5,000 feet while on the ILS approach for runway 23. The Arrival Controller observed the deviation and gave instructions to correct it. Ops. impact -- none.

C-FMFL, a privately owned McCain Foods Ltée Falcon 50, was on an IFR flight from Toronto (CYYZ) to Montréal/Trudeau (CYUL). At 2050Z, the crew was instructed to abort its approach because WJA481, a Boeing 737 operated by WestJet, was preparing to take off. As a result, the minimum required separation between the two aircraft was maintained.

The Westjet Airlines Ltd. Boeing 737-700 series aircraft (operating as flight WJA481) was departing on a scheduled IFR flight from Ottawa (M-CIA) (CYOW) to Toronto (LBPIA) (CYYZ). The flight crew reported that a birdstrike had occurred during the take-off from runway 25. The runway was closed for an inspection and the remains of one (1) sparrow were recovered. Ops. impact -- unknown.
