A WestJet Boeing 737-800 (C-FZRM/ WJA398) from Kelowna, BC (CYLW) to Edmonton, AB (CYEG) was on approach Runway 30. The crew initiated a missed approach as aircraft was too high on the approach. The flight landed safely at 2132Z. No operational impact.

Incident at TORONTO / LESTER B. PEARSON INTL ON (CYYZ) (Overshoot/missed approach, ATM - other)

The Pinnacle Airlines, Inc. Bombardier CL-600-2D24 (RJ900) Regional Jet aircraft (N228PQ, operating as Delta Connection flight FLG3737) was concluding a scheduled IFR flight from Atlanta (Hartsfield-Jackson) International Airport, GA (U.S.A.) (KATL) to Toronto (LBPIA) (CYYZ). The WestJet Airlines Ltd. Boeing B-737-7CT aircraft (C-GWJE, operating as flight WJA398) was departing on a scheduled IFR flight from Toronto (LBPIA) (CYYZ) to Halifax (SIA) (CYHZ). NAV CANADA staff at Toronto Tower reported that the FLG3737 flight crew was instructed to fly their aircraft in an overshoot of the approach to runway 24R when the Tower Controller determined that the previous departing aircraft would not be airborne in time. FLG3737 subsequently landed on runway 24R at 2154Z without further incident. Ops. impact -- unknown.

Incident at vicinity of 60 miles west of Thunder Bay (CYQT) (Communication navigation surveillance/air traffic system)

The Westjet Airlines Ltd. Boeing 737-700 series aircraft (operating as flight WJA398) was on a scheduled IFR flight from Edmonton International Airport (CYEG) to Toronto (LBPIA) (CYYZ). The aircraft was originally on a flight plan that included the route YWV direct 51/100 direct VBI J500 YQT J500 SSM J588 TIBUD. The aircraft was cleared from the vicinity of Saskatoon International Airport (CYXE) direct to TIBUD. Approximately 60 miles west of Thunder Bay (CYQT), the Winnipeg controller observed the aircraft on radar deviating from the cleared route and queried the flight crew. The flight crew acknowledged that they were still flying their original flight plan. No other aircraft were involved or inconvenienced.

A Canadian registered Cessna T206H, enroute from Halifax (CYHZ) to Fredericton (CYFC), departed from Runway 32 at 01:35Z. Immediately after departure, the flight advised that it was returning to Halifax due to a problem. No assistance was required. The aircraft circled briefly VFR. At approximately 01:38 the flight advised that the problem was resolved. A new IFR clearance was provided. WJA398 was delayed approximately three minutes.

Incident at 4536/06120 (TCAS alert, Conflict - loss of separation, Alleged Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) infraction)

UPDATE TSB: A10A0117: WJA398, a Westjet Boeing 737-700 was en route from Halifax to St. John's NL and had been cleared to FL340. TGM081, a TAG Aviation Canadair CL60, was en route from Montreal to Madrid at FL350. WJA398 climbed to FL344 before returning to FL340 during which time the flight crew received a TCAS RA. The crew of TGM081 did not receive any TCAS advisory. Separation between the aircraft eroded to 1.5 miles laterally and less that 1000 feet vertically in an area where 5 miles lateral or 1000 foot vertical are required.
WJA398, Boeing 737 7CT, enroute from Halifax (CYHZ) to Toronto (CYYZ), was cleared to 34,000 ft. due to crossing traffic at 35,000 ft. WJA398 received a Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) resolution advisory. Radar data showed that the WJA398 actually climbed above 34,000 ft. to 34,400 ft. at a distance of 1.5 miles from the crossing traffic at 35,000 ft. before descending down to 34,000 ft. The aircraft at 35,000 ft. (TGM081, CL600) did not report any advisory.

The Moncton AFF advised the Control Tower that the Airport Authority had received a bomb threat to the terminal building. The WJA398 diversion from Halifax was directed to Apron One due to Apron Eight being unavailable. At 02:55Z Moncton Airport authority declared the threat over.

Incident at ST. JOHN'S INTL NL (CYYT)

WJA398, Boeing 737 7CT, was enroute from Halifax (CYHZ) to St. John?s (CYYT) when a passenger became irate and accused another passenger of stealing a cell phone. The passenger was non-compliant to the flight crew and disruptive to other passengers onboard. The flight crew called inbound to St. John?s to request that authorities meet the aircraft upon arrival. The individual was questioned and charges were pressed by crew.
