Incident at ST. JOHN'S INTL NL (CYYT)

A Tornado RRR9542 part of Reservation STORM TRAIL 72/7 en-route from Goose Bay to Lajes (Azores) diverted to St. John's. While on a 4 nautical mile final for Runway 16 the aircraft declared an emergency, due to a nose gear indication. The aircraft then broke off the approach, cancelled the IFR, and did a fly past the tower. The Tower advised the gear appeared to be down. The aircraft then advised the gear might collapse on landing and chose to proceed over the Ocean to dump fuel before landing and declared a Mayday. The aircraft landed safely at 1652Z.
