Incident at KAMLOOPS BC (CYKA)

A Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-311 (C-GABO/JZA8429) from Calgary, AB (CYYC) to Kamloops, BC (CYKA) reported a possible bird strike while landing Runway 27. ST19 (vehicle) found 4 dead birds. The pilot indicated that there was no evidence of a bird strike on the aircraft and it was most likely prop wash.

Incident at CALGARY INTL AB (CYYC) (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)

A Sunwest Aviation Piper PA-31 (CNK1015) from Edson, AB (CYET) to Calgary, AB (CYYC) landing Runway 17R reported a blown tire. WestJet (WJA153), Morningstar Air (MAL7070) and Jazz (JZA8429) all delayed several minutes on departure for inspection and clean up.
Update Maintenance & Manufacturing: Maintenance found the tire was flat due to skid damage. Maintenance replaced the left main landing gear (MLG) wheel assembly. This event is entered in the safety management system (SMS) for the official investigation and any applicable corrective action.

A Jazz Aviation De Havilland DHC 8 (operating as JZA8429) on a IFR flight reported hitting a coyote on his roll out after landing runway 26 at 0339Z. Airports staff recovered the carcass at 0445Z.

Incident at Vicinity of Kamloops Airport (CYKA)

Pilot on a Jazz Aviation De Havilland DHC 8 (C-GJIG/ operating as JZA8429) on a IFR flight, executed a missed approach after a faulty gear indication on the nose landing gear. After the missed approach problem rectified as a faulty bulb/indication only. No assistance required and aircraft landed safely at 0450Z. No impact to operations.

Incident at CALGARY INTL AB (CYYC) (Rejected take-off, Incursion - runway - animal, Collision with object, Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)

A Jazz Aviation Bombardier CL600 (operating as JZA8557) on a IFR flight from Calgary (CYYC) to Victoria (CYYJ) departed runway 28 and at approximately 1 mile off the end reported to Tower that they hit something with their main gear just past runway 34 intersection. A Jazz Aviation De Havilland DHC 8 (operating as JZA8429) on a IFR flight from Calgary (CYYC) to Kamloops (CYKA) was instructed to abort take off runway 28. Staff vehicle inspected runway 28 and found remains of a coyote. Runway cleaned up and re-opened at 0313Z.
UPDATE TSB A13W0021: The Jazz LLP (DBA Air Canada Express) Bombardier CL-600-2B19 (RJ200), C-GJZZ, was operating as flight JZA8557 from Calgary, AB (CYYC) to Victoria, BC (CYYJ). During the take-off roll on Runway 28 the aircraft collided with a coyote just west of the intersection of Runway 34. There was no damage to the aircraft.

Incident at KAMLOOPS BC (CYKA) (Incursion - runway - animal)

JZA8429 touched down on threshold Runway 26 as a coyote appeared crossing Runway 26 from north to south at the 1000 foot mark. No impact on operations.
UPDATE from Aerodrome Safety: No further action required. The Kamloops Airport has a wildlife program in place meeting the regulatory requirement of CAR 302.

Incident at 30NE Kamloops (TCAS alert)

An Air Canada Jazz operating flight JZA8429, IFR Calgary (CYYC) to Kamloops (CYKA), level at F200 descended in response to a Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) Resolution Advisory (RA) from a Flair Airlines Boeing 737-400 operating flight FLE456, IFR Fort Nelson (CYYE) to Kelowna (CYLW), 2.8nm distant, descending through F213 to stop at F210, closing on a crossing track. FLE456 passed 0.3nm behind and 2000 feet above JZA8429. Traffic was passed, no impact to operations.

Air Canada, ACA1177, an A320, overshot runway 28 at Calgary due to Jazz, JZA8429, in position on runway 28 waiting for WestJet, WJA842, landing first on runway 34. Runway separation would not be ensured.

Incident at KAMLOOPS BC (CYKA)

UPDATE from the TSB A09P0287: The Air Canada Regional (Jazz) DHC-8-300 aircraft, C-GABO, operating as JZA8429, landed at Kamloops after a flight from Calgary. During the taxi in to the gate the AUX BAT HOT warning light illuminated and the temperature gauge went into the red. The crew completed the appropriate QRH checklist which called for turning the Aux Battery switch off. After the engines were shut down at the gate the captain directed the first officer to request ARFF and called for a rapid deplanement. ARFF responded. Maintenance replaced the Aux Battery and returned the aircraft to service.
Air Canada Jazz Dehavilland DH8C flight JZA429 (C-GABO) landed safely at 0152 upon approaching their apron stand, pilot indicated they had an issue with a battery (smoking battery) and would be deplaning passengers rapidly. Fire dispatch was advised of the event and were on scene within about 5 minutes.

Incident at KAMLOOPS BC (CYKA)

RCMP called Kamloops FSS to advise that there were drunk passengers on Air Canada Jazz Flight JZA8429, a Dehavilland DH8C IFR Vancouver to Kamloops, and that they wanted ramp access. Airport Security was notified. There was no impact on airport operations.

Incident at KAMLOOPS BC (CYKA) (Overshoot/missed approach, Other operational incident, Conflict - potential)

The pilot of CRC444 a Convair owned by Conair Aviation executed a go around RWY 26 in Kamloops (CYKA) due to Jazz flight JZA8429 a De Havilland Dash 8 on final for RWY 08.

Shortly after departure from Saskatoon, JZA8429 advised they were receiving an aural indication in the cockpit and that the source was unknown. The aircraft returned to the field and AFF was activated. The aircraft landed safely at 19:49Z. No other aircraft was inconvenienced. TSB will update when information becomes available.
