Incident at MONTRÉAL / PIERRE ELLIOTT TRUDEAU INTL QC (CYUL)
Dorval Control Tower observed smoking issuing from engine 2 of ICN2202 (F-28). At the same instant, the aircraft aborted its take-off. As a precaution, the tower called emergency services, which rushed to the scene. No impact on operations. UPDATE: The TSB investigation revealed that the smoke was caused by glycol that seeped into the engine during de-icing of the aircraft. La tour de contr,le de Dorval a observé de la fumée provenant du moteur #2 de ICN2202 (F-28). Au même moment, l'appareil a interrompu son décollage. Par mesure de précaution, la tour a fait appel aux services d'urgence, qui se sont dépêchés sur les lieux. Aucun impact sur l'exploitation. MISE À JOUR: L'enquête du BST a révélé que la fumée était causée par du glycole qui s'est infiltré dans le moteur lors du dégivrage de l'appareil.

Incident at 20 NM West Sydney
ICN2202 FA28 20 NM West of Sydney reported # 1 engine had flamed out. Requested lower altitude and return Halifax. Aircraft subsequently declared an emergency and requested CFR on Standby for arrival. Aircraft landed without further incident. TSB case closed. Update: The flight crew attempted a restart of the engine, during the restart, there was a high vibration noticed by the crew and they elected to abort the start. Upon inspection it was found that a blade had failed on the number 2 low-pressure disk, however, the low-pressure shaft was able to be rotated. The failure is to be investigated by the engine manufacturer. TSB file # A99A0001.
