TSB update:The El AL Boeing 747-200 aircraft was on a flight from Amsterdam to Chicago on 08-June-2003. Sometime during the flight, a main pneumatic duct failure occurred on the number 3 engine (P & W JT9D-7). The aircraft was flight planned for a technical stop in Gander and while in Gander, EL AL flew in maintenance personnel from JFK to replace the pneumatic duct and the engine cowling blow-out panels that had blown off when the duct had failed. The aircraft was then re-routed to JFK and during the departure out of Gander one of the replacement blow-out panels came off. The crew were advised of the panel departure by QX ATC and they elected to continue to destination. The aircraft exited Canadian airspace without further incident.
ELY1871, B747 lost blow-out panel on #3 engine during departure. Panel was discovered on runway and positively identified by handling agency as belonging to ELY1871. This info was passed on to crew by Gander ACC. ELY1871 continuing to destination KJFK. TSB informed. Case Closed
