A WestJet Boeing 737-8CT (C-GJLZ/WJA2061) from Los Cabos, Mexico (MMSD) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR) was issued a missed approach for Runway 26R due to an Air Canada Airbus A320-211 (C-FFWN/ACA223) from Calgary, AB (CYYC) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR) traffic slow to clear ahead. WJA2061 landed safely at 0130Z. Minimal operational impact.

A WestJet Boeing 737-8CT (C-GJLZ/WJA1726) from Palm Springs Intl, CA (KPSP) to Vancouver Intl, BC (CYVR) was instructed to conduct a missed approach when on final for Runway 26R due to a Jazz Bombardier CL-600-2D24 (Series 900) (C-FUJZ/JZA8890) from Whitehorse/Erik Nielsen Intl, NT (CYXY) to Vancouver Intl, BC (CYVR) needing to exit at M6. Impact on operations: WJA1723 landed at 0352Z.

Incident at 150 NM WNW Nashville (KBNA)

TSB #A19F0200: C-GJLZ, a Boeing 737-800 aircraft operated by WestJet, was conducting flight WJA1417, from Orlando Intl. (KMCO), FL to Calgary Intl. (CYYC), AB with 6 crew members and 156 passengers on board. In cruise at approximately 150 nm from Nashville Intl. airport (KBNA), the cabin crew reported the smell of fumes in the cabin. The flight crew conducted the checklist for smoke/fire/fumes and the smell dissipated. The flight crew decided to divert to KBNA where the aircraft landed without further incident. Maintenance personnel found no fault with the aircraft, and aircraft was returned to service.
UPDATE from Airworthiness: A Civil Aviation Safety Inspector (CASI) looked into this occurrence. Flight Crew reported a strong acrid odor reported by multiple passengers and crew between rows 10-13. Suspect electrical in nature. Crew elected to divert to Nashville. Maintenance carried out inspections in accordance with (IAW) Fault Isolation Manual (FIM) 21-00 task 806 “smoke or fumes in the cabin, source unknown”, with no faults found. Maintenance than ran both engines for 10 minutes with no detection of smoke or odor. The recirculation system operational test was carried out IAW aircraft maintenance manual (AMM) Task 21-25-00-710-801, with no faults found. Aircraft was released for service and has flown many legs with no recurrence of defect.

Pearson International, ON (CYYZ) to St. John's International, NL (CYYT) slow to depart Runway 05. WJA1103 landed on Runway 05 at 1046Z without further incident. No operational impact.

TSB Report#A18O0014: C-GJLZ, a Boeing 737-8CT aircraft operated by WestJet, was conducting flight WJA717 from Toronto/Lester B. Pearson Intl., ON (CYYZ) to Vancouver Intl., BC (CYVR) with 6 crew members and 151 passengers on board. During cruise, a cabin crew member sustained an injury and was unable to perform their duties. Cabin safety positions were reassigned, and the flight landed without incident.

The aircraft was vectored for a 2nd approach and landed Runway 26R without further incident at 2332Z.

Incident at CALGARY INTL AB (CYYC)

Aviation Incident Report#14374: a WestJet Boeing 737-8CT (C-GJLZ/ WJA655) from Toronto, ON (CYYZ) to Calgary, AB (CYYZ) reported a disruptive passenger incident. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arranged to meet the flight on arrival due to a passenger onboard experiencing severe anxiety. CYYC Airport authority requested police to meet the flight incase of any further escalation. EMS handled the entire situation while police stood by. The passenger went with EMS to Hospital.

Incident at WINNIPEG / JAMES ARMSTRONG RICHARDSON INTL MB (CYWG)

Shortly after departure, a WestJet Boeing 737-8CT (C-GJLZ / WJA520) from Winnipeg, MB (CYWG) to Toronto, ON (CYYZ) indicated issues with the flight management computer (FMC) and advised Winnipeg area control centre (ACC) that they were unable to be reduced vertical separation minimum (RVSM). WJA520 was able to fly the area navigation (RNAV) points and continued to their destination. No other impact to operations.

Incident at VANCOUVER INTL BC (CYVR)

Aviation Incident Report#14121: A WestJet Boeing 737-8CT (C-GJLZ/ WJA1852) from Vancouver, BC (CYVR) to Kahului, HI (PHOG) reported a disruptive passenger incident. Upon returning the aircraft to the gate for a medical passenger incident another passenger became disruptive and was pulled off the flight for being intoxicated and irate. Police were requested to the gate and spoke to the passenger.

Incident at VANCOUVER INTL BC (CYVR)

Aviation Incident Report#13847: A WestJet Boeing 737-8CT (C-GJLZ / WJA1875) from Lihue, HI (PHLI) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR) reported a passenger-related incident. The flight crew noticed that a passenger was intentionally turning off the water and the water heater in the lavatory as well as removing the hand soap and placing it behind the mirror. The flight crew observed that these events took place after a certain passenger was in the lavatories. The crew requested Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) meet the flight. On arrival the passenger denied the accusations. The RCMP advised the passenger that he/she would not be eligible to travel until it was cleared by WestJet Corporate Security.
