AFR351 began approaching a Jazz Bombardier CL-600-2B19 (Series 100) (C-FEJA/JZA8820) from Hamilton, ON (CYHM) to Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau International, QC (CYUL) that was flying a parallel route. AFR351 was cleared on a 080 heading and JZA8820 was guided south. Spacing was always assured. No other impact.

After passing EPSAT, an Air France Boeing 777 200 (FGSPH/ AFR351) from Toronto, ON (CYYZ) to Paris, France (LFPG) was observed moving towards AGLUK instead of Q921, when the route known by Air Traffic Control (ATC) was EPSAT Q921 AGLUK. When questioned about the situation, AFR351 confirmed that they had received EPSAT Q921 AGLUK but had failed to insert Q921 into the flight management system (FMS). No impact on operations.

Incident at ST. JOHN'S INTL NL (CYYT) (FOD (foreign object debris), Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)

An Air France Airbus A340-300 (AFR351) from St John's, NL (CYYT) to Paris, France (LFPG) taxied and departed Runway 29 at 1330Z. Due to the airport foreign object debris (FOD) procedures, every surface manoeuvred on by a heavy aircraft are closed until inspected and cleaned if required. AFR351 conformed with the procedures and FOD was immediately detected by airport personnel. A Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Beech 300 Medevac (C-GNLF) was delayed 10 minutes for the removal of FOD. No other operational impact.

The Air France Airbus A-340-300 series aircraft (operating as flight AFR351) was departing on a scheduled IFR flight from Toronto (LBPIA) (CYYZ) to Paris (Charles de Gaulle/Roissy) International Airport, France (LFPG). The Air Canada Boeing 767-300 series aircraft (operating as flight ACA826) was departing on a scheduled IFR flight from Toronto (LBPIA) (CYYZ) to Athens (Elefthérios Venizélos) International Airport, Greece (LGAV). NAV CANADA staff reported that AFR351 departed runway 06L on a LESTER SEVEN departure to maintain 5,000 feet ASL. ACA826 subsequently departed runway 06L, also on a LESTER SEVEN departure to maintain 5,000 ASL. The tower controller provided the South Departure controller with the appropriate spacing and executed the communication transfer on a timely basis. However, the South Departure controller failed to recognise the speed differentiation between the two aircraft in time to intervene on a timely basis and the separation standard of four (4)NM or 1,000 feet was breached.
