Incident at MONTRÉAL / PIERRE ELLIOTT TRUDEAU INTL QC (CYUL)

ACA 743, an Air Canada DC-9, was coming IFR from La Guardia (KLGA), NY. About 80 NM south of Dorval (CYUL), the crew informed the Montreal Control Centre that they had to idle an engine. They wanted to proceed straight to Dorval with as little radar vectoring as possible to intercept the final. They were vectored for Rwy 24R at CYUL, where they touched down without incident. They did not declare an emergency or request priority. UPDATE 21-09-00: Aircraft registration added. The TSB (A00Q0125) reports that the aircraft was at FL250 when the left-engine dirty oil indicator illuminated. The throttle of the left engine was pulled back, and the indicator remained lit for 4 or 5 minutes and then went out. The throttle was advanced, and the indicator illuminated again after 1 minute. The throttle of the left engine was put in neutral for the remainder of the flight. The engine was not shut down. The approach was made on one engine, and the aircraft landed without further incident. The left engine was shut down after landing. Maintenance observed that the oil filter was clean, but the differential pressure indicator was found to be defective and was replaced.
