At 1145Z and 150NM North of Goose Bay, NL (CYYR), a Nordwind Airlines Boeing 777-300 (VPBJO/NWS353) from Moscow/Sheremetyevo, Russia (UUEE) to Varadero, Cuba (MUVR) declared a medical emergency and requested to divert to CYYR. Flight was re-cleared as requested. Aircraft circled CYYR for approximately 1 hour while burning fuel, then requested to continue to its destination. Flight was again re-cleared as requested. Exited the Gander, NL (CZQX) Flight Information Region (FIR) at 1340Z.

Kennedy Intl Airport, NY (KJFK) descended from FL300 to FL280 without clearance. Opposite direction traffic of a Federal Express Corporation McDonnell Douglas MD-11F (N613FE/FDX9001) from Memphis Intl Airport, TN (KMEM) to Cologne Bonn Airport, Germany (EDDK) at FL290. AFL100 requested FL280 after it was asked to confirm flight level (FL).
Update TSB Report #A18A0098: VQ-BQB, a Boeing 777-300 aircraft operated by Aeroflot Russian Airlines, was conducting flight AFL100 from Moscow/Sheremetyevo Intl (UUEE), Russia to New York/John F. Kennedy Intl (KJFK), NY. N613FE, a McDonnell Douglas MD-11F aircraft operated by Federal Express, was conducting flight FDX9001 from Memphis Intl (KMEM), TN to Cologne-Bonn/Konrad Adenauer (EDDK), Germany. At approximate position 56°13 N / 044°08 W, AFL100 descended from FL300 to FL280 without a clearance. Opposing traffic was FDX9001 at FL290. Since the 2 aircraft did not establish the required vertical separation for 15 minutes before and after crossing tracks, a loss of separation occurred.

AFL110 received and read back DCT KLIPS MT flight plan (F/P), but remained on its flight plan route. No operational impact.
UPDATE to aircraft information: An Aviation Safety Program Analyst looked into this occurrence and the aircraft model was updated from "An Aeroflot-Russian Airlines Airbus A330-200 (AFL110)..." to "An Aeroflot-Russian Airlines Airbus A330-243 (AFL110)...".

An estimate was received on a Nord Wind Boeing 777-300 (NWS3516) on a flight from Cancun, Mexico (MMUN) to Moscow, Russia (UUEE). The data on the flight data strip was not verified correctly by the controller. New York called with an estimate on the aircraft. The controller missed that the routing and Mach number given by New York was different than on the strip.

At 0747Z, an Aeroflot-Russian Airlines Airbus A330-300 (VQBMX/AFL123) on a flight from New York/John F. Kennedy, NY (KJFK) to Moscow, Russia (UUEE) made a LOMSI position report via the automatic dependent surveillance (ADS). The ADS report showed the aircraft going from 55/50 to 59/30. The flight had been cleared from 55/50 to 57/40. The aircraft was recleared correctly before a deviation occurred.

A Malta Wings Boeing 777 200 (MWS3517) from Moscow (UUEE) to Punta Cana (MDPC) radar service was being terminated and the aircraft was given high frequency (HF) radio assignments for New York Oceanic (NYO). The aircraft informed controller that they lost HF system en-route. NYO informed controller that they would not accept the aircraft without HF. After coordinating with Boston, MA (BOS) Traffic Management Unit (TMU), the aircraft was given a new routing further inland. No impact.

Incident at E HOIST intersection

UPDATE: A14A0064: The British Aerospace BAE 125 series 800A, registration N805JL, was on a flight from Keflavik, Iceland, to Goose Bay, NL. While at FL370, N805JL requested a descent to FL250 due to a decrease in #1 engine oil pressure. Air Traffic Control (ATC) could not authorize lower due to other traffic. Ten minutes later the pilot declared an emergency, shut down the engine (Honeywell TFE731) and descended to FL250 without a clearance. A loss of separation occurred with the other traffic in the area. The aircraft landed at Goose Bay without further incident with Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) standing by. Maintenance is investigating.
UPDATE: Joint rescue coordination centre (JRCC) Halifax Report#[S2014-00645]: (531915N 0602555W - CYYR : Goose Bay). The Gander Air Control Centre (ACC) reported that a Hawker 800 aircraft (N805JL) had diverted toward Goose Bay, NL because it had lost power to an engine off the Labrador coast. The aircraft landed safely in Goose Bay.
An American corporately registered British Aerospace BAE 125 (N805JL) from Keflavik (BIKF) to Goose Bay, NL (CYYR) FL370 routing 58/50 HOIST requested descent to FL250 at 2017Z. Pilot indicated they wanted lower to perform maintenance checks however air traffic control (ATC) could not authorize lower due to joining traffic from 57/50 HOIST with less than required longitudinal separation. At 2027Z the pilot declared an emergency, shut down an engine due low oil pressure and descended to FL250 without a clearance. Traffic was passed for three flights, a United States Air Force Boeing 757-225 (N567CA/ CMB597) from Glasgow (EGPK) to Baltimore, MD (KBWI), an Aeroflot-Russian Airlines Airbus A330-300 (VQBPI/ AFL101) from New York, NY (KJFK) to Moscow (UUEE) and a Icelandair Boeing 757 300 (TFFIX/ ICE615) from Keflavik (BIKF) to New York, NY (KJFK) routing 57/50 HOIST and N805JL was established at FL250 approximately 10 minutes prior to HOIST. The aircraft descended to FL210 under radar control and landed CYYR at 2201Z without further incident. Crash Fire and rescue (CFR) support was provided on the field.

Incident at Over Goose Bay (CYYR)

UPDATE FAA: The aircraft, baggage and passengers were screened in Keflavík with negative results. The aircraft has since continued on to its final destination.
The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that AFL103, Airbus A330-300, enroute from New York (KJFK) to Moscow (UUEE), received a threat of explosive materials on board the aircraft. The flight crew, after initially reporting their intention to continue to their destination and after entering Reykjavík (BIRK) airspace, reported that it was diverting to Keflavík (BIKF) for landing. The aircraft landed safely and the crew and passengers deplaned.

AFL313, Boeing 767-300, enroute from Moscow (UUEE) to New York (KJFK), was coordinated with Gander via Shanwick on route 62/20 61/30 60/40 59/50 PRAWN YDP at 34,000 ft. In the vicinity of 61N 030W, while still in Reykjavik airspace, the Reykjavik controller mistakenly believed that the aircraft was off course and re-cleared the aircraft 61/30 59/40 57/50 LOACH FOXXE as was flight planned. The re-clearance resulted in less than the required separation with an aircraft in Gander airspace.

The Aeroflot - Russian Airlines Airbus A-330-200 series aircraft (operating as flight AFL334) was on an IFR flight from Havana (José Martí) International Airport (Cuba) (MUHA) to Moscow (Sheremetyevo) International Airport, Russian Federation (UUEE). NAV CANADA staff at Toronto ACC were advised by Boston ARTCC staff that the aircraft was diverting to Toronto (LBPIA) due to a medical emergency. The aircraft landed at 0550Z. The Airport Operations Control Centre (A.O.C.C.) was advised and an ambulance met the aircraft at the gate.

Incident at approximately 45NM northwest of Toronto (Communication navigation surveillance/air traffic system, Aerodrome - foreign authorities involved, ATS operating irregularity, ATM - other)

The Aeroflot-Russian Airlines Boeing 767-300 series aircraft (operating as flight AFL333) was on a scheduled IFR flight from Moscow (Sheremetyevo) International Airport, Russian Federation (UUEE) to Havana (José Martí) International Airport, Cuba (MUHA). The Federal Aviation Administration contacted the NAV CANADA Operations Centre regarding AFL333, en-route Moscow-Havana, having been re-cleared. Toronto ACC staff were requested to investigate. A review of the flight, radar and audio data determined that an estimate on AFL333 was passed to Cleveland ARTCC and a "short-cut" of direct VXV was co-ordinated at approximately 0848Z. The aircraft was re-cleared and began diverging from the previous track. AFL333 was transferred to a Cleveland ARTCC frequency at 0856Z, approximately 25NM northeast of London, appearing to proceed approximately 20NM east of previous route (YXU J545 DJB) until loss of the target well within Cleveland airspace.
