A Sky Regional Airlines Embraer ERJ 170-200 SU (C-FRQN/SKV7624) from Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau Intl, QC (CYUL) to Boston Intl, MA (KBOS) reported a bird strike upon take-off from Runway 24L. After a runway inspection, no birds were found. No impact to operations.

Incident at 12NM MANIWAKI QC (YMW) NDB

A WestJet Boeing 737-7CT (C-FWSF/WJA214) from Calgary, AB (CYYC) to Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) was cleared to FL310 with a correct read back. WJA214 was informed of traffic at FL300. WJA214 reported having the traffic in sight. At FL314, with a descent rate of around 2900/minute, WJA214 advised air traffic control (ATC) of a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) resolution advisory (RA) and climbed a few hundred feet. The other aircraft in the vicinity was a Japan Airlines Boeing 787-9 (JA865J/JAL7) from Boston, MA (KBOS) to Tokyo/Narita Intl, Japan (RJAA). After crossing traffic, WJA214 was observed descending below FL310. No impact.

A United Airlines Boeing 777-222 (N217UA/UAL951) from Brussels, Belgium (EBBR) to Washington-Dulles, VA (KIAD) declared a medical emergency due to an ill passenger on board and changed its destination from KIAD to Boston/Logan, MA (KBOS). Information was transmitted to the Boston air traffic services (ATS) unit. No impact on operations.

Incident at 5152N / 06549W

A Delta Air Lines Boeing 777-200 (N864DA/DAL148) on a flight from Las Vegas Intl, NV (KLAS) to Paris/Charles de Gaulle, France (LFPG) reported having a pressurization issue and would divert to New York/John F. Kennedy, NY (KJFK) for repairs. The aircraft requested and was cleared to descended to FL300. At 0115Z, the aircraft declared an emergency and requested to divert to Boston Intl, MA (KBOS). Boston Area Control Centre (ACC) and Montreal (CYUL) low level advised. The aircraft did not require assistance, nor a fuel dump. No impact on operations. Aircraft left airspace at 0135Z to Boston air route traffic control center (ARTCC).
UPDATE TSB #A20Q0011: N864DA, a Delta Airlines Inc. Boeing 777-200 (DAL148), was on an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight from Las Vegas/McCarran Intl, NV (KLAS) to Paris/Charles de Gaulle, France (LFPG). At 0059Z, approximately 125 nautical miles (NM) northwest of Havre-Saint-Pierre, QC (CYGV), the crew declared that it had a pressurization problem, requested a descent to FL300, and also asked to divert to New York/John F Kennedy, NY (KJFK). At 0115Z, when the aircraft was 25 NM north of CYGV, the crew declared an emergency and asked to be diverted to Boston/ General Edward Lawrence Logan Intl, MA (KBOS). The flight was then transferred to the Boston Control Centre at 0135Z. The aircraft landed at KBOS at 0226z. There were no injuries.

Pearson, ON (CYYZ), upon landing on Runway 24R, reported a possible bird strike in the flare. Airport vehicle (BMN73) inspected the runway and found 3 Starlings (1 not intact). BMN73 also retrieved a bolt from the threshold of Runway 24R.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Trenton was advised and reported an accidental ELT activation at Burlington, ON (CZBA).

At 2227Z, a United Airlines Boeing 757-200 (UAL1865) from San Francisco, CA (KSFO) to Boston, MA (KBOS) was issued holding instructions as KBOS was no longer accepting aircraft due to fog. UAL1865 read back the holding instructions correctly. At 2231Z, UAL1865 was observed to have missed entering the hold and, when queried, the pilot stated that they were unaware of the hold as the captain had left the cockpit. UAL1865 was issued a new heading and handed off to the Cleveland Air Route Traffic Control Center (ZOB). No operational impact.

Incident at TORONTO / BILLY BISHOP TORONTO CITY AIRPORT ON (CYTZ) (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)

An Air Nunavut Dassault Falcon 10 (C-GSXC/BFF100) from Toronto/Oshawa, ON (CYOO) to Toronto/Billy Bishop, ON (CYTZ) MEDEVAC struck a bird while landing on Runway 08. No damage was reported. The operation was impacted with Staff 29 taking considerable time to remove the dead bird. A Porter Airlines de Havilland DHC-8-402 (C-GLQC/POE936) from Boston, MA (KBOS) to Toronto/Billy Bishop, ON (CYTZ) was pulled off the approach and a Porter Airlines de Havilland DHC-8-402 (C-GLQO/POE123) from Toronto/Billy Bishop, ON (CYTZ) to Newark, NJ (KEWR) was delayed in departing.
