Air Radio made voice contact shortly after their entering of Canadian airspace, and subsequently the aircraft re-established data link connections. No traffic. No impact on operations.

An Atlas Air Boeing 747-400 (N416MC/GTI8045) on a flight from Ramstein Air Base, Germany (ETAR) to Dover Air Force Base, DE (KDOV) advised that they were shutting down one engine as a precaution, however, were not declaring an emergency. The aircraft proceeded without further incident. No impact on operations.
Update TSB Report #A19A0089: N416MC, a Boeing 747-412F operated by Atlas Air, was conducting flight GTI8045 from Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany (ETAR) to Dover Air Force Base (KDOV), DE. During cruise, 82 nm NW of Goose Bay Airport (CYYR), NL the crew observed the right hand outbard engine oil quantity turn magenta on the EICAS. The crew consulted with company flight dispatch and maintenance control. The crew completed a precautionary shut down of the right hand outbard engine but did not declare an emergency. The flight continued to KDOV where it landed without further incident. Maintenance has removed the engine and is being investigated for the original fault.

Incident at 4700N 04600W, 280NM east of St. John's

UPDATE: TSB Report#A14A0099: The Omni Air International Boeing 777-222, registration N918AX, was operating as CMB422 on a flight from Baltimore to Ramstein, Germany. While in cruise flight near 47° N, 046° W, the crew detected an electrical burning smell and light smoke in the flight deck. The crew followed the emergency checklist and removed galley power. An emergency was declared with ATC followed by a request to divert to St. John's airport (CYYT). The flight landed at CYYT without incident with ARFF standing by. A post flight inspection by emergency crews was conducted and no fire or smoke was detected. Maintenance determined the cooling fan was the source of the smell and smoke. The cooling fan was replaced and ground tested serviceable.
An American corporately registered Boeing 777 222 (N918AX/ CMB422) from Washington, DC (KBWI) to Ramstein Air Base (ETAR), at 0720Z in the vicinity of 4700N 04600W the flight declared an emergency reporting fumes in the cockpit. The flight advised that they were returning to Gander, NL (CYQX). Flight descended to FL280 and subsequently requested clearance to St John's, NL (CYYT). Flight was provided a clearance direct CYYT. Flight landed safely at 0807Z without further incident.

At 0245Z, a United States Air Force McDonnell Douglas C-17 Globemaster II (RCH525) from Ramstein Air Base (ETAR) to Gander, NL (CYQX) on final runway 31 reported an indication in the cockpit that the stab strut door on the right rear ramp may be deployed. Requested to hold inbound on the approach at 2500 FT to troubleshoot the issue. At 0255Z, RCH525 advised unable to resolve issue and performed a flyby for visual inspection by tower. ERS went to standby positions. Aircraft overshot runway 31 at 0300Z. Conditions were too dark to ascertain deployment of the ramp by Tower or ERS. At 0302Z, RCH525 declared an emergency and squawked code 7700. At 0312Z, RCH525 landed runway 31 with no issues observed on touchdown.

Gander High Level Domestic was applying non-radar separation due to a radar outage and was unable to grant requested descent due crossing traffic, a United Airlines Inc. Boeing 777 200 series from Newark, NJ (KEWR) to Tokyo, Japan (RJAA). The aircraft descended on own to FL290 before the problem was corrected.
