Embraer EMB-505 (C-FWTF) from Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau Intl, QC (CYUL) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson Intl, ON (CYYZ) was observed in a right turn, climbing through 1700 feet. No impact to operations.

TSB Report #A20O0067: Air Canada flight AC81, a Boeing 787-9 (C-FGDT) aircraft, was en route from Tel Aviv, Israel (LLBG) to Toronto LBPIA, ON (CYYZ) and approximately 214NM NE of Quebec City when a flight attendant had a medical emergency. The flight crew declared PAN PAN and requested that emergency medical services (EMS) meet the flight on arrival in Toronto. The aircraft landed without further incident in Toronto and the crew member was transported to hospital by EMS.

The Montreal (YUL) tower instructed the aircraft to climb the runway heading to 4000 feet while coordinating with the terminal control unit (TCU). The aircraft was observed in a left turn at 1444Z and continued its climb to 8700 feet without coordination. No impact to operations.

While the aircraft was taxiing on the ground to position itself near the passenger boarding and unloading gate, the right engine (#2) turned off on its own. The aircraft was taken out of service and the engine #2 electrical control unit (ECU) was replaced.

While inbound, a WestJet Encore de Havilland DHC-8-402 (C-FENO/WEN3538) from Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) to Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) declared MAYDAY due to flight control problems. Coordination carried out. WEN3538 landed without incident at 0248Z. No impact.
UPDATE from TSB Report #A20Q0039: C-FENO, a Bombardier DHC-8-400 aircraft operated by WestJet Encore, was operating flight WEN3538 under instrument flight rules from Toronto/Lester B Pearson Intl, ON (CYYZ) to its destination of Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau Intl, QC (CYUL) with 21 passengers and 4 crew members on board. While the aircraft was descending towards CYUL, the "mistrim left wing low advisory light" light came on. The crew disconnected the autopilot and found that the flight controls were very stiff. They pulled the roll disconnection lever, and the commanders controls became free but those of the first officer remained stiff. The crew completed the associated Quick Reference Handbook (QRH) checklist and an emergency was declared. The aircraft landed without incident. There were no injuries.
UPDATE from Flight Operations: A Civil Aviation Safety Inspector (CASI) looked into this occurrence. During the descent of WEN3538, the MISTRIM LEFT WING LOW advisory light illuminated. When the First Officer (FO) / Pilot Flying (PF) disconnected the autopilot, it was noticed that the controls were very stiff and the Captain confirmed the same. The roll disconnect handle was pulled, which freed the Captain’s side while completely freezing the FO’s side. Quick Reference Card (QRC)and Quick Reference Handbook (QRH) procedures were actioned and air traffic control (ATC) was advised with a MAYDAY call that the aircraft was experiencing flight control malfunction. The runway assigned was the Instrument Landing System (ILS) 06R due to it having a longer available landing distance than 06L. Flight attendants were briefed for a non-normal landing, and the passengers were also notified. The approach and landing were normal and, upon stopping on the runway, the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) unit conducted an inspection to confirm that no abnormalities were present. The aircraft taxied to the gate for a normal shutdown.

TSB Report #A20Q0021: C-GTQB, an Air Transat Boeing 737-800 (TSC474), was on an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight from Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau International, QC (CYUL) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) with 172 passengers and 6 crew members on board. During pushback from Gate 49 at departure from CYUL, the right Scimitar winglet hit temporary construction fencing. The aircraft was brought to the gate, and passengers got off normally to get onto another aircraft. There were no injuries, and damage was limited to the winglet.

UPDATE TSB Report #A20Q0029: C-GDUZ, a Boeing 767-375ER operated by Air Canada Rouge LP with flight number ROU7096, was flying under instrument flight rules from the Montreal/Pierre Elliot Trudeau, QC (CYUL) airport with only 2 pilots on board. While the aircraft was climbing, the engine parameters display and crew alert system (EICAS) broadcast the message "L AC BUS OFF". The crew requested a return to CYUL, a complete Quick Reference Manual (QRH) checklist, and declared a state of emergency. Subsequently, the procedure corrected the problem. The crew canceled the state of emergency and chose to proceed to the initial destination of CYYZ. The aircraft landed safely, and there were no injuries or damage to the aircraft.

Incident at VANCOUVER INTL BC (CYVR) (Communication navigation surveillance/air traffic system)

For reasons unknown, the controller thought the runway was closed so a missed approach was issued for an Air Canada Airbus A319-114 (C-GBHM/ACA125) from Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR). Aircraft was vectored for a 2nd approach and landed without issue at 0440Z.

A WestJet Boeing 737-7CT (C-FWSO/WJA702) from Vancouver, BC (CYVR) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) reported a bird strike when departing Runway 26L.
UPDATE from Airworthiness: A Civil Aviation Safety Inspector (CASI) looked into this occurrence. The CASI noted that there were no bird strikes reported in the log book for the aircraft on March 11th, 2020.

Accident at VANCOUVER INTL BC (CYVR) (FOD (foreign object debris))

A WestJet Boeing 737-76N (C-FZWS/WJA717) from Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR) that was waiting to park at Gate 15 reported foreign object debris (FOD) on the apron near Gate 13 where a WestJet Boeing 737-6CT (C-GWJU/WJA141) from Edmonton, AB (CYEG) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR) was parking. Reported to Vancouver Airport Authority (YVRAA) and upon inspection the FOD was determined to originate from WJA141 colliding with WJA717 while passing on the apron. No operational impact.
UPDATE TSB Report #A20P0011: C-GWJU, a Boeing 737-600 aircraft operated by WestJet, was conducting flight WJA141 from Edmonton Intl (CYEG), AB to Vancouver Intl (CYVR), BC with 5 crew and 80 passengers on board. The flight crew stopped short of the lead-in line for gate B15, with engines running, awaiting ground crew to marshal the aircraft to the gate. C-FZWS, a Boeing 737-700 aircraft operated by WestJet, was conducting flight WJA717 from Toronto/Lester B. Pearson Intl (CYYZ), ON to CYVR with 5 crew and 87 passengers on board. This aircraft was taxing eastbound on the apron towards the lead-in line for gate B13, when the left winglet contacted the right-hand horizontal stabilizer of C-GWJU. There were no injuries. Both aircraft sustained substantial damage.
UPDATE from Airworthiness: A Civil Aviation Safety Inspector (CASI) looked into this occurrence. Flight crew of WJA717 reported to the Maintenance Control Centre (MCC) that the left wingtip contacted the right hand stabilizer upon taxiing to the gate. Maintenance inspected Left-Hand (L/H) winglet and found damage. Winglet strike inspection carried out in accordance with aircraft maitenance manual (AMM). Due to winglet strike, a "Non-Destructive Testing" (NDT) (eddy current) examination was carried out as per the Boeing 737 AMM and no crack indications were noted. Maintenance replaced winglet in accordance with AMM. Maintenance applied aerodynamic smoother to upper surface of L/H winglet in accordance with AMM. Aircraft returned to service on. Aircraft has flown 171 cycles since the occurrence with no further related issues.

Fairchild SA-227DC (CA8081) from Kelowna, BC (CYLW) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR). FLE223 landed safely on Runway 08L.
