Pearson, ON (CYYZ) requested a return to the airport due to a vibration in engine #2; no emergency was declared while the aircraft was inbound for Runway 06R at CYUL. The aircraft then requested the presence of Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) services on the holding bay for Runway 24L to check the engine. No impact on operations.

Pearson, ON (CYYZ) to Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) was unable to exit via Taxiway L, which was blocked by a Government of Quebec Canadair CL600-2B16 (C-GQBQ/QUE20) on a MEDEVAC flight from Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) to Quebec/Jean Lesage, QC (CYQB). TSB Report #A20Q0021: C-GTQB, an Air Transat Boeing 737-800 (TSC474), was on an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight from Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau International, QC (CYUL) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) with 172 passengers and 6 crew members on board. During pushback from Gate 49 at departure from CYUL, the right Scimitar winglet hit temporary construction fencing. The aircraft was brought to the gate, and passengers got off normally to get onto another aircraft. There were no injuries, and damage was limited to the winglet.

Pearson Intl, ON (CYYZ) to Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau Intl, QC (CYUL) was on B2 after landing on Runway 24R and had clearance to cross Runway 28 towards F. Impact: WEN3534 had to yield to TSC399.

Pearson Intl, ON (CYYZ) declared PAN PAN with Boston Centre due to a loss of the hydraulic system. The aircraft then requested to be redirected to Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) and requested the services of Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF). The aircraft landed on Runway 06R at 1153Z without incident. Runway 06R was closed from 1153Z to 1210Z. Impact: a few departures were delayed.
UPDATE: TSB Report #A20Q0004: C-GPWE, a WestJet Encore de Havilland, Dash-8 Q400 (WEN3441), was on an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight from Moncton/Greater Moncton Intl., NB (CYQM) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) with 66 passengers and 4 crew members on board. While the aircraft was in cruising flight approximately 175 nautical miles east of Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL), a loss of hydraulic fluid in system number 1 occurred. The crew diverted to CYUL and declared an emergency, and Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) services were deployed. The aircraft landed on Runway 06R without incident. There were no injuries or damage to the aircraft.

Accident at VANCOUVER INTL BC (CYVR) (FOD (foreign object debris))

A WestJet Boeing 737-76N (C-FZWS/WJA717) from Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR) that was waiting to park at Gate 15 reported foreign object debris (FOD) on the apron near Gate 13 where a WestJet Boeing 737-6CT (C-GWJU/WJA141) from Edmonton, AB (CYEG) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR) was parking. Reported to Vancouver Airport Authority (YVRAA) and upon inspection the FOD was determined to originate from WJA141 colliding with WJA717 while passing on the apron. No operational impact.
UPDATE TSB Report #A20P0011: C-GWJU, a Boeing 737-600 aircraft operated by WestJet, was conducting flight WJA141 from Edmonton Intl (CYEG), AB to Vancouver Intl (CYVR), BC with 5 crew and 80 passengers on board. The flight crew stopped short of the lead-in line for gate B15, with engines running, awaiting ground crew to marshal the aircraft to the gate. C-FZWS, a Boeing 737-700 aircraft operated by WestJet, was conducting flight WJA717 from Toronto/Lester B. Pearson Intl (CYYZ), ON to CYVR with 5 crew and 87 passengers on board. This aircraft was taxing eastbound on the apron towards the lead-in line for gate B13, when the left winglet contacted the right-hand horizontal stabilizer of C-GWJU. There were no injuries. Both aircraft sustained substantial damage.
UPDATE from Airworthiness: A Civil Aviation Safety Inspector (CASI) looked into this occurrence. Flight crew of WJA717 reported to the Maintenance Control Centre (MCC) that the left wingtip contacted the right hand stabilizer upon taxiing to the gate. Maintenance inspected Left-Hand (L/H) winglet and found damage. Winglet strike inspection carried out in accordance with aircraft maitenance manual (AMM). Due to winglet strike, a "Non-Destructive Testing" (NDT) (eddy current) examination was carried out as per the Boeing 737 AMM and no crack indications were noted. Maintenance replaced winglet in accordance with AMM. Maintenance applied aerodynamic smoother to upper surface of L/H winglet in accordance with AMM. Aircraft returned to service on. Aircraft has flown 171 cycles since the occurrence with no further related issues.

Upon landing on Runway 24L, a Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-402 (C-GGNW/JZA8949) from Saint John, NB (CYSJ) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) was cleared to taxi via Taxiway D2 and cross Runway 24R. Separation was not assured with a departing Air Canada Embraer ERJ 190-100 IGW (C-FMZB/ACA462) from Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) to Ottawa/Macdonald-Cartier, ON (CYOW). Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) advised.

UPDATE TSB Report #A20O0026: Jazz Aviation LP, flight JZA949, a De Havilland DHC-8-400 (registration C-GGNW) aircraft, landed at Toronto / LBPIA (CYYZ) on Runway 24L and was instructed by ATC to take a right turn onto D2 and then cross Runway 24R. When the aircraft was approaching the holding position for Runway 24R, the flight crew observed an Air Canada ERJ 190-100 (flight AC462, registration C-FMZB) departing runway 24R in front of them. AC462 had received clearance from ATC to depart Runway 24R, and was on the take-off roll. The flight crew of JZA949 queried ATC when they saw AC462 passing in front. NAV Canada is conducting an internal investigation.

Incident at TORONTO / LESTER B. PEARSON INTL ON (CYYZ)

Aviation Incident Report #16570: A WestJet Boeing 767-338 (WJA2703) landed in Toronto/Lester B. Pearson Intl, ON (CYYZ) at 2345Z and was into the gate at 0006Z. The aircraft needed to hold due to Canada customs: additional screening for COVID virus, giving people space between each other. The aircraft was released at 0250Z. Guests began to get irate and unruly at approximately 0220Z. Guests were fighting with each other and someone opened duty free to drink. Police presence was requested. Manager attended the flight when advised guests were going to step off the plane and would no longer listen to instructions. On the way to aircraft, doors were opened to customs hall so there would not be a breach if guests ignored instructions and deplaned. No guests were off the plane when manager arrived at 0230Z. Police arrived at approximately 0235Z. Police arrived with masks, they briefed with crew. They called Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) to try and help get hold released. Incident at LONDON ON (CYXU) (Bird presence)

A Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-300 (JZA8649) from Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) to London, ON (CYXU) was inbound at 1816Z and initiated an overshoot for Runway 15 due to birds on the approach. Pilot completed VFR circuit (CCT) and landed on Runway 15. No impact on operations.

Incident at TORONTO / LESTER B. PEARSON INTL ON (CYYZ)

Aviation Incident Report #16559: A WestJet flight departing from Toronto/Lester B. Pearson Intl, ON (CYYZ) returned to the gate for reports from flight attendants and several guests regarding a family that being disruptive. Once plane door was open, police stepped on the aircraft to offload the family and take statements. Family rebooked on a later flight.

Incident at TORONTO / LESTER B. PEARSON INTL ON (CYYZ)

Aviation Incident Report #16565: A WestJet Boeing 737-8CT (C-FUCS) on a flight to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson Intl, ON (CYYZ) reported an unruly passenger on board. One passenger was being rude to flight crew which caused other passengers to get involved and start yelling at each other. Once aircraft was into gate, on police officer stepped on the plane. Police advised to make announcement with all guests seat numbers to remain seated onboard. After offload was complete 3 Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers and 4 police officers spoke with all parties.

Incident at TORONTO / LESTER B. PEARSON INTL ON (CYYZ)

A WestJet Boeing 737-800 (WJA4306) from Ottawa/Macdonald-Cartier, ON (CYOW) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) was initiated by the tower to conduct an overshoot (O/S) of Runway 23. A SkyWest Airlines Bombardier CL-600-2B19 (SKW4463) from Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) to Minneapolis/St-Paul, MN (KMSP) was on the runway and was given take-off clearance, but the aircraft was not rolling. SKW4463 then asked the tower if they were cleared, at which point WJA4306 was given the overshoot. WJA4306 landed at 0031Z. No operational impact.

Incident at 150NM TORONTO / LESTER B. PEARSON INTL ON (CYYZ)

An Air Canada Airbus A320 (ACA945) from Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Mexico (MMZH) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) declared a medical emergency due to a sick passenger. Crew arranged for medical response at gate. Aircraft landed safely at 0009Z. No further impact to operation.

Aviation Incident Report # 16582: The crew of a WestJet Boeing 737-7CT (C-GWJS) on a flight from Calgary Intl, AB (CYYC) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson Intl, ON (CYYZ) requested police and emergency medical services (EMS) due to a passenger consuming their own alcohol on board. The passenger was met by police and EMS after getting off the aircraft.

A Jazz Bombardier CL-600-2D24 (C-GNJZ/JZA8622) from Saskatoon/John G. Diefenbaker, SK (CYXE) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) initiated a missed approach to Runway 06L due to not intercepting and capturing the glide slope. JZA8622 landed Runway 06L at 1611Z without incident. No impact to operations.
