An Air Canada Bombardier BD-500-1A11 A220-300 (ACA687) from St. Johns, NL (CYYT) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) conducted a go-around Runway 24L with a hydraulic issue. ACA687 performed a checklist and at 1945Z requested emergency vehicles on standby (STBY) as nose wheel steering was in question. ACA687 landed 24L at 2005Z and stopped on the runway for an inspection. Operations were shifted to a Runway 23 only operation due to several runway closures. Several aircraft were delayed due to the reduction in AAR. After approximately 10 minutes, ACA687 taxied off the runway under their own power and normal operations resumed.

It appeared that the aircraft deviated from its route, as well. No impact on operations, safety was not jeopardized, separation was assured.

Incident at ST. JOHN'S INTL NL (CYYT) (Communication navigation surveillance/air traffic system, Flight plan – activation)

The St. Johns, NL (CYYT) tower called the London flight information centre (FIC) on the air traffic control (ATC) line 419 to close a VFR flight plan for an Air Borealis de Havilland DHC-6-300 (C-FCPV/LBR949) from St. Johns, NL (CYYT) to St. Johns, NL (CYYT). There was an active VFR flight plan and it was closed by the FIC Specialist at 1420Z. Subsequently, at approximately 1515Z, the St. Johns tower called the London FIC back on the ATC line 419 to ask if there was a second flight plan for LBR949. The London FIC did not have a second VFR flight plan. The London FIC queried dispatch and it was determined that the flight plan should not have been closed. Dispatch then faxed a new VFR flight plan to the London FIC for the already airborne flight. The originally proposed VFR flight plan (FP) from dispatch was entered as "received" from dispatch, including a remark in Box 18 of a 00+30 fuel stop during the flight.

Approximately 30NM northeast (NE) of Gander, NL (CYQX), a Provincial Aerospace Beech 200 (C-GPGR/SPR06) from St. Johns, NL (CYYT) to St. Anthony, NL (CYAY) requested to return to CYYT, with no reason provided. The aircraft subsequently declared an emergency due to an oil leak in the #1 engine. The aircraft landed without incident. No impact to operations.
UPDATE: TSB Report #A21A0026: C-GPGR, a Beech King Air BE20 aircraft operated by Provincial Aerospace Ltd., was conducting surveillance flight SPR006 from St. John’s, NL (CYYT) to St. Anthony, NL (CYAY). An hour and a half into the flight, the crew decided to return to CYYT, due to an onboard radar equipment issue. While planning the approach, the crew noticed fluid streaming from the No.1 engine, behind the propeller and the vent from the top of the cowling. All engine indications were normal. Due to another inbound aircraft that had requested priority due to a medical emergency, the crew decided to declare an emergency to avoid a delay. The aircraft landed without incident and taxied to the ramp. Maintenance inspected the No.1 engine and discovered oil leaking from the engine torque transmitter and a damaged O-ring. The O-ring was replaced, a ground run was completed and the aircraft was returned to service.

The pilot advised that they did not experience a bird strike. A wildlife officer was advised and removed the remains.
