An American corporately owned BAE-Raytheon Hawker 850XP (N841TC/NSH84) from St. Johns, NL (CYYT) to Willow Run, MI (KWIP) was seen south of its route. When questioned by the controller, the aircraft indicated it was following a route different from the one known by air traffic control (ATC). NSH84 was redirected to a route coordinated with the Toronto centre. No impact on operations.

A Ukraine Air Alliance Antonov AN-12 (UKL4051) from St. Johns, NL (CYYT) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) was flight planned TUKIR UDNOX5 CYYZ. The UDNOX5 transition includes LIBEM. UKL4051 was observed to be well south of LIBEM and, when queried by the controller, the pilot advised they were navigating to LIBEM, then UDNOX. UKL4051 passed more than 9NM away from LIBEM and were in fact flying away from the waypoint. The controller re-cleared UKL4051 direct to RAGID. There were no conflicts or operational impacts.

The National Operations Centre (NOC) advised that an Air Canada Rouge Airbus A319-114 (C-GBIN/ROU1522) from Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) to St. Johns, NL (CYYT) declared an emergency with the Boston Centre in light of a pressurization issue. The aircraft decided to return to CYUL at 9,000 feet, then landed safety on Runway 24L at 0148Z. A runway inspection was completed at 0151Z. No impact on operations.

A Canadair CL-600-2B16 registered to the Federal Aviation Administration (N86/FLC86) on a flight from St. Johns Intl, NL (CYYT) to Iqaluit, NU (CYFB) on an IFR approach was handed off from the controller. The aircraft made no radio calls to the Flight Service Station (FSS) prior to landing. FSS and Montreal Area Control Centre (CZUL) controller attempted several times to make contact with the aircraft with no success. The aircraft landed Runway 34 at 1424Z. No impact on operations.

TSB Report #A19W0121: C-FDMB, a Boeing 737-800 operated by WestJet, was conducting flight WJA264 from Calgary (CYYC), AB to St. John’s Intl (CYYT), NL. During the takeoff roll, the flight crew observed a master caution cargo door alert. The flight crew elected to reject the takeoff at 90 KIAS. While taxiing back to the gate the flight crew called for ARFF due to hot brakes. Company maintenance found a bungee lanyard that interfered between the doorframe and warning switch. The lanyard was replaced.

Incident at CALGARY INTL AB (CYYC)

A WestJet Boeing 737-800 (WJA264) on a flight from Calgary Intl, AB (CYYC) to St. Johns, NL (CYYT) aborted takeoff due to cargo door opening during takeoff roll. Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) was called out due to hot brakes. A WestJet Encore de Havilland DHC-8-402 (WEN3152) on a flight from Edmonton Intl, AB (CYEG) to Calgary Intl, AB (CYYC) had to overshoot at 4 miles final due to WJA264 being on the runway.
UPDATE from Airworthiness: A Civil Aviation Safety Inspector (CASI) looked into this occurrence. The company responded that the flight crew reported a cargo door warning light illuminated at 90kts. Crew rejected take-off and returned to the gate. Maintenance performed Aft Cargo Door Inspection and found "soft-grip bungee lanyard" broken and interfering with door frame warning switch. Replaced handle and warning switch in accordance with (IAW) Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) 52-71-31. Switch adjusted and door warning system operational tested and found serviceable. Maintenance carried out high energy stop conditional IAW AMM 05-51-07-210-801. No faults found. Aircraft was returned to service. Aircraft has flown 44 cycles since the occurrence with no further related issues.
