Despite the perfect readback, SKV7634 continued its climb beyond 7 000 ft up to 7 700 ft. Impact: the separation between SKV7634 and an American corporately owned Learjet 45 (N65TP) from Goose Bay, NL (CYYR) to Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) was reduced to 1.1 NM and 300 ft.

After a hand off (H/O) from Gander (QX), a Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-402 (C-GJZG/JZA8899) from Goose Bay, NL (CYYR) to Halifax/Stanfield, NS (CYHZ) was seen approximately 17 NM east of the route indicated in the Canadian Automated Air Traffic System (CAATS). Air traffic control (ATC) at Gander (QX) confirmed that the tower at CYYR had given it the flight planned route. When questioned, JZA8899 confirmed that it was going directly (DCT) to 4700N06249W.

Accident at 5442N / 05821W

An American corporately registered Piper PA-46-350P (N757NY) from Goose Bay, NL (CYYR) to Narsarsuaq, Greenland (BGBW) crashed at position 5442N 5821W.
Update TSB #A19A0025: N757NY, a privately operated Piper PA 46-350P aircraft, had departed from Goose Bay (CYYR), NL on a VFR flight plan to Narsarsuaq (BGBW), Greenland with 2 pilots on board. At approximately 0824 ADT, the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) detected an Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) signal from the aircraft. It was determined that the aircraft had crashed into a snow-covered hillside, approximately 31 nm north northeast of Rigolet, NL. Deteriorating weather conditions at the time were less than adequate for air search and rescue resources. Both occupants survived the initial impact, however, one individual later succumbed to their injuries. The survivor was transported to Makkovik, NL via snowmobile until the weather became suitable for an air transport to a hospital in Goose Bay. The individual sustained minor injuries, and was released from the hospital the following day. The TSB is investigating.

Incident at 175NM NE GOOSE BAY NL (CYYR)

TSB Report #A19A0009: N305UP, a Boeing 767-300 aircraft operated by United Parcel Service (UPS), was conducting flight UPS218 from Paris/Charles de Gaulle (LFPG), France to Philadelphia Intl (KPHL), PA. During cruise flight approximately 175 nm north east of Goose Bay (CYYR), NL, the flight crew received several EICAS messages (IAS DISAGREE, RUDDER RATIO, AILERON LOCKOUT), in addition to several stall warning activations. A few minutes later, the EICAS message L/R EEC (Electronic Engine Control) was received. The flight crew declared an emergency and requested a diversion to CYYR, where the aircraft landed without further incident. Maintenance personnel conducted a pitot static leak check, and inspected the pitot drains. No faults were found. The right Air Data Computer (ADC) was replaced, and the aircraft was released to service.

At 1055Z, a United Parcel Service Boeing 767-300 (N305UP/UPS218) from Paris/Charles de Gaulle, France (LFPG) to Philadelphia International, PA (KPHL) declared an emergency due to an Air Data System issue and requested to divert to Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Goose Bay, NL (CYYR). The aircraft was cleared as requested and landed without incident at 1137Z.

At the St. Johns International, NL (CYYT) aerodrome, Runway 29 was closed by voice advisory for ice control during freezing drizzle. The previous runway condition report was declared void. There was one aircraft, a Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-402 (C-GGMU/JZA8828) from Goose Bay, NL (CYYR) to St. Johns International, NL (CYYT), that was inbound. Runway 16/34 was deemed to be in a similar condition and Runway 02/20 was already closed due to snow and ice.
