The pilot advised that they did not experience a bird strike. A wildlife officer was advised and removed the remains. At approximately 1830Z, an Air Canada Boeing 777-300 (ACA871) enroute from Paris/Charles de Gaulle, France (LFPG) to Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) declared a medical emergency. The flight was approximately 120 miles south of Goose Bay, NL (CYYR) and diverted to St. Johns, NL (CYYT). The flight landed at 1928Z. No impact to operations.

Another aircraft in the ALTREV formation, a McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle (TREND13), accompanied TREND14 to CYYR. The two aircraft landed safely at 1614Z. No impact on operations.

Incident at 100NM NW ST. JOHN'S INTL NL (CYYT)

A Provincial Airlines de Havilland DHC-8-102 (C-FDND/PVL1925) from St. Johns, NL (CYYT) to Goose Bay, NL (CYYR) advised that it had shutdown its number 2 engine and declared an emergency. PVL1925 requested to return to CYYT and landed without incident 1342Z. No impact to operations.
UPDATE: TSB Report #A21A0011: C-FDND, a de Havilland DHC-8-102 aircraft operated by PAL Airlines, was conducting flight PVL1925 from St. John’s, NL (CYYT) to Goose Bay, NL (CYYR). During climb through approximately 12000 feet, the #2 engine reverted to manual mode with the ECU going off line. At approximately FL215, the crew noted a yaw and observed that the #2 engine torque indication had decreased. Shortly after, the engine oil pressure warning light illuminated and the crew noted a low oil pressure indication as the engine was shutting down. The QRH engine failure checklist was completed. The aircraft returned to CYYT and landed without incident, with ARFF on standby. No injuries were reported and there was no damage to the aircraft. The operator’s maintenance department replaced various components, a test flight was carried out and the aircraft was returned to service. The operator is coordinating with the AMO to determine the cause of the engine power loss.

While conducting a touch-and-go training flight, an Orizon Aviation Québec Inc. Cessna 152 (C-GJBF) from Quebec/Jean Lesage, QC (CYQB) to Quebec/Jean Lesage, QC (CYQB) exited Runway 24 and stopped on the grass on the south side of Runway 24, between the precision approach path indicators (PAPIs) and Taxiway A. No damage reported to the aircraft. No injuries. Services were deployed. The aircraft exited the runway under its own power without incident. Incident at IQALUIT NU (CYFB) (ATM - inaccurate aeronautical information, Aerodrome - runway or taxiway surface condition)

The pilot of a Cargojet Airways Ltd. Boeing 767-323 (C-GXAJ/CJT1691) from Winnipeg/James Armstrong Richardson, MB (CYWG) to Iqaluit, NU (CYFB) called the flight service station (FSS) at 1139Z for the runway surface condition (RSC). The RSC and the Canadian Runway Friction Index (CRFI) from 1110Z were given to CJT1691. At 1152Z, CJT1691 advised the FSS that they had entered a hold approximately 100 miles south of CYFB and were waiting for someone to plow the runway to be able to execute a landing. At 1154Z, FSS advised the airport help desk. The help desk advised that someone should be out sweeping soon. This update was provided to CJT1691. At 1208Z, the Breevort controller called to ask for an update on the sweeping. At 1209Z, the FSS called the help desk again to get another update. The help desk advised that they would call the field foreman and then call back. At 1213Z, the help desk advised the FSS that the field foreman indicated they were working on getting some trucks out on the runway to start sweeping. No timelines were given. Update given to CJT1691. As of 1215Z, there were still no trucks on the runway sweeping. At 1226Z, a vehicle (TK81) requested access to the runway for sweeping. At 1229Z, CJT1691 and the Montreal Area Control Centre (CZUL) controller advised that CJT1691 was diverting to Goose Bay, NL (CYYR). Impact on operations: Delay for CJT1691 to come in for landing at CYFB. Original estimated time of arrival (ETA) was 1206Z. CJT1691 needed to divert to CYYR.

An American, corporately registered Cirrus SF50 (N124MR) from Iqaluit, NU (CYFB) to Goose Bay, NL (CYYR) was cleared for the standard instrument departure (SID) CYFB5 for Runway 34. On departure, the aircraft was observed in a left turn while climbing through 2000 feet, while the SID indicates to maintain the runway heading. No impact.
UPDATE: Duplicate AOR-268842-V1: An American, corporately registered Cirrus SF50 (N124MR) from Iqaluit, NU (CYFB) to Goose Bay, NL (CYYR) departed IFR from Runway 34 at 1642Z, and shortly after departure started a turn without having talked to the Montreal Area Control Centre (CZUL), breaking the standard instrument departure (SID). Air traffic control (ATC) questioned the pilot, who said they thought the SID was "runway heading until 010 before turning". (Duplicate AOR-268842-V1 deleted after information merge)

A Maleth Aero Airbus A340-600 (9HPPE/MLT221) from Bournemouth, United Kingdom (EGHH) to New York/John F. Kennedy, NY (KJFK) experienced severe turbulence, declared PAN PAN, and descended from F380 to F340 without prior clearance. No traffic.
UPDATE: TSB Report #A20A0045: 9H-PPE, an Airbus A340-642 aircraft operated by Maleth Aero, was conducting cargo flight MLT221 from Bournemouth, United Kingdom (EGHH) to John F. Kennedy, NY (KJFK). While cruising at FL380, 9H-PPE reduced speed in anticipation of expected moderate turbulence. At about 55°30 N, 042°00 W, the intensity of turbulence increased from moderate to severe, making it impossible for the crew to type a controller-pilot data link communications (CPDLC) descent request. The crew was unable to contact Gander Oceanic on HF radio. However, the crew did broadcast a "PAN PAN" signal and descended to FL340. Gander Oceanic subsequently acknowledged and cleared the flight at the requested level. The crew cancelled the PAN PAN, continued to the destination and landed without further incident. The aircraft quick access recorder was downloaded, and flight data analysis determined that flight loads sustained were within limitations. Maintenance personnel inspected the aircraft, with no fault found.

At 0127Z, an Air France Boeing 777-300 (FGSQH/AFR347) from Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) to Paris/Charles de Gaulle, France (LFPG) declared an emergency, reporting a possible fire. AFR347 requested and was cleared direct to Goose Bay, NL (CYYR). Crew advised that there was a sensor indication of fire in the cargo hold, but that there were no other signs of an actual fire. AFR347 landed at 0217Z without incident. No impact to operations.
UPDATE: Aviation Incident Report #16845: The crew of AFR347 reported that the fire indication was in the forward cargo hold of the aircraft.
UPDATE: TSB Report #A20A0043: F-GSQH, a Boeing 777-300 aircraft operated by Air France, was conducting flight AFR347 from Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau Intl, QC (CYUL) to Paris/Charles de Gaulle, France (LFPG). Approximately 300 NM northeast of Goose Bay Intl, NL (CYYR), the crew declared an emergency due to a cargo fire indication. The crew diverted to Goose Bay Intl, NL (CYYR) and landed without further incident, with the ARFF standing by. Several news reports indicated that the ARFF did not find any trace of fire, smoke or heat, and that it was determined to be a faulty indication.

Accident at 20NM NNE GOOSE BAY NL (CYYR)

TSB Report #A20A0021: A privately operated Murphy SR3500 (Murphy Moose) on floats was conducting a flight from Lake Melville, NL, to Red Wine River, NL. During the takeoff, the aircraft hit several waves prior to the rotation speed and became airborne, approximately 6 to 8 feet in the air, before the left wing dropped and struck the water, resulting in the aircraft flipping over. The pilot, the passenger and a dog egressed and were rescued by a boat operating nearby. The pilot and passenger received minor injuries.
