At takeoff from Runway 24R, the separation between an Air Canada Rouge Airbus A321-211 (C-GHPD/ROU1686) from Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) to Charlottetown, PE (CYYG) and an Envoy Air Embraer E135 (N812AE/ENY3903) from Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) to New York/La Guardia, NY (KLGA) was reduced to 2.5 NM, where it should normally be 3 NM. Impact: ENY3903 deviated to the south and north of the runway centreline due to wake turbulence produced by ROU1686.

A Sky Regional Airlines Embraer ERJ 170-200 SU (C-FRQW/SKV7519) from Charlottetown, PE (CYYG) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) advised air traffic services (ATS) that they were diverting to Quebec/Jean Lesage, QC (CYQB) due to smoke in the flight deck. No emergency declared. No impact on operations. SKV7519 landed safely at 1613Z.
TSB #A19Q0053: C-FRQW, a Sky Regional Airlines Embraer ERJ 170-200, was on instrument flight rules (IFR) flight SKV7519 from Charlottetown, PE (CYYG) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson Intl, ON (CYYZ). Approximately 63 nautical miles southeast of Quebec/Jean Lesage, QC (CYQB), the crew was informed of the smell of smoke coming from the back section of the cabin. No smoke was visible; however, the crew decided to divert to CYQB. No emergency was declared, and the aircraft landed without incident. No one was injured.

Incident at MONTRÉAL / PIERRE ELLIOTT TRUDEAU INTL QC (CYUL) (Aerodrome - runway or taxiway surface condition, Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)

Although it received and read back the instruction to clear Runway 06L via Taxiway B1 after landing, a Jazz Bombardier CL-600-2B19 (series 100) (C-GUJA/JZA8512) from Charlottetown, PE (CYYG) to Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) did so by exiting via Taxiway E; it took a high-speed exit. Impact on operations: JZA8501 was instructed to reject its approach on Runway 06L and was reassigned to Runway 06R for its landing. Runway 06L was closed from 1113Z to 1242Z. Due to poor weather conditions and to the state of the runways surface, Runway 06R was closed from 1236Z to 1243Z for snow removal. The following departures were delayed: TSC954, ROU1986, and ROU1842. The National Operations Centre (NOC) and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) were notified.
Update - TSB Report #A19Q0001: C-GUJA, a Jazz Aviationi LP Bombardier CL-600-2B19 CRJ200, was on instrument flight rules (IFR) flight JZA8512 from Charlottetown, PE (CYYG) to Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) with 3 crew members and 49 passengers on board. At landing on Runway 06L at CYUL, air traffic control (ATC) instructed the flight crew to exit on Taxiway B1. Although the instruction was read back correctly, the pilot-in-command steered the aircraft towards Taxiway Echo, which was closed by NOTAM. When he noticed this error, the pilot-in-command applied the brakes with the intention of bringing the aircraft onto Runway 06L. However, a layer of ice covered the ground within the protected area on Taxiway Echo, which prevented the aircraft from braking effectively and turning. The aircraft ended its run on the lawn. Runway 06L was closed temporarily to allow for the towing. The aircraft did not sustain any damage on the landing gear, and no one was injured.

At the Charlottetown, PE (CYYG) aerodrome, a commercial power outage commenced at 1759Z. Power was restored at 1853Z. Impact to operations involved the YYG 118.0 service provided through the hand-held (NICAN) transceiver, the vehicle 122.6 service provided through the Canadian Airport Authority (CAA) handheld portable radios, the 121.5 frequency being transmit (Xmit) only (no receive), and the 243.0 being transmit (Xmit) only (no receive). All other operational equipment powered by the static uninterruptible power unit (SUPU).

An American privately registered Backcountry Supercub SQ2 from Portland/Jetport, OR (KPWM) to Charlottetown, PE (CYYG) landed on Runway 3. Upon backtracking, pilot started to exit the Runway via the emergency access road, just north of Taxiway C before being alerted by the flight service station (FSS). Nose wheel was resting on the access road and aircraft had to be pushed back onto the runway. Pilot subsequently taxied to the apron with no impact on operations.

While a Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-311 (C-GABO/JZA8808) from Halifax/Stanfield Intl, NS (CYHZ) to Sydney, NS (CYQY) was inbound, and a vehicle (LO354) was working on Runway 06/24, communications failed with CYQY, and the Charlottetown, PE (CYYG) flight service station (FSS) was not able to access the 122.0 mandatory frequency (MF), Web Query (IQY) monitoring, or the runway visual range (RVR) 06. The Sydney Airport Authority (SAA) maintenance confirmed via phone that the vehicle was off the runway prior to JZA8808 receiving the approach clearance from the Moncton Control Centre (CZQM). Outage duration lasted from 1305Z until 1340Z, approximately.

At the Charlottetown, PE (CYYG) aerodrome, a vehicle was told to exit the runway for multiple outbound VFR aircraft. The vehicle reported off the runway. When scanning was done while a To The Tabs Aviation Piper PA-28-161 (C-FDME) from Charlottetown, PE (CYYG) to Charlottetown, PE (CYYG) was taking position on the runway, the vehicle was spotted on the runway without permission or advising of its intentions. The aircraft was advised of the vehicle and the vehicle got off the runway soon after. No impact to operations.

At the Charlottetown, PE (CYYG) aerodrome, the IYG glide path (GP) failed, and the Monitor/Controller (MONCO) displayed RED plus MNT WRN. The Technical Operations Coordinator (TOC) was advised, who requested an attempt to turn the IYG GP back on. The IYG GP was turned back on at 0223Z, GREEN plus MNT WRN remained. The IYG GP failed again at 0241Z, and the TOC was advised again. The TOC will issue a NOTAM.
