While established at 6NM final for Runway 24, a Nolinor Aviation Boeing 737-2K2C (C-GNLK/NRL943) from Val-dOr, QC (CYVO) to Montreal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX) reported to have been targeted by a green laser to the Southeast (SE) of its position (Ste-Anne-des-Plaines prison). No impact on operations. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Quebec (GDQ), flight plan office (FPO), 911 and the flight service station (FSS) were notified.

Incident at 2NM E MONTRÉAL INTL (MIRABEL) QC (CYMX)

A privately registered Robinson R44 II entered Class C terminal airspace of Montreal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX), at 1000 feet and heading northbound, without establishing communications. Impact: a Cargair Ltee Cessna 172N (C-GIXH) and a Gestion Majel Inc. Robinson R44 (C-FSYO), established in the circuit at CYMX at 1000 and 900 feet, entered into conflict with the Robinson R44 II aircraft. C-GIXH and C-FSYO received traffic information and were distanced. No other impact on operations.

Incident at MONTRÉAL INTL (MIRABEL) QC (CYMX)

A privately registered Cessna 172I from Montreal/Les Cèdres, QC (CSS3) to Quebec/Neuville, QC (CNV9) was observed crossing the Montreal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX) zone without establishing any communications. It was also observed at 1500 feet entering the restricted airspace of CYR601 and CYR624. Impact: The Bell/Textron tower asked a Bell Helicopter Bell 429 (TXH7930) from Montreal/Les Cèdres, QC (CSS3) to Montreal/Les Cèdres, QC (CSS3) to conduct evasive manoeuvres. No other impact on operations.

Immediately after departure from Runway 24, an Académie Aéronautique Cessna 172N (C-GIGW) from Montreal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX) to Montreal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX) declared MAYDAY due to a missing fuel cap. The aircraft returned to land on Runway 06 a few minutes later. C-GIGW landed and left the runway of its own power. No impact.

After landing on Runway 29, an Airbus Canada Ltd. Airbus BD-500-1A11 A220-300 (C-GMZN/ABK398) from Montreal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX) to Montreal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX) notified the tower of a loss of hydraulic fluid. The aircraft did not declare an emergency. Emergency vehicles were notified. After the runway inspection, it was determined that there was no loss of fluid on the runway. No impact on operations.

Incident at 16NM SW MONTRÉAL INTL (MIRABEL) QC (CYMX)

An Académie Aéronautique Cessna 172N (C-GIGW) from Montreal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX) to Montreal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX) had radio problems at 16NM Southwest (SW) of CYMX. The pilot remained out of controlled airspace, then communicated with the tower by telephone before entering the area displaying the code 7600. This communication channel was interrupted due to poor quality. C-GIGW was finally able to establish radio communication with the tower and landed on Runway 29 safely at 1933Z. Operational impact: a Government of Canada, Department of National Defence McDonnell Douglas F-18 (VAPR01) from Montreal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX) to Montreal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX) broke off its approach to Runway 11 under the instructions of the Montreal terminal (relaying the requests from CYMX).

C-GBHZ then exited and re-entered the zone at 1946Z. Contact was established while the aircraft was once again in Class C airspace without authorization. Impact: an Académie Aéronautique Cessna 172N (C-GYBV) from Montreal/Mirabel Intl, QC (CYMX) to Montreal/Mirabel Intl, QC (CYMX) that was entering the zone was limited to 1500 feet to avoid conflict.

Runway 11/29 was unavailable between 1812Z and 1845Z. The aircraft was moved to Taxiway A6, which was unavailable between 1845Z and 1918Z. Impact: an Académie Aéronautiqe Cessna 152 (C-GVYD) and a Nolinor Aviation Cessna 172L (C-GHWK) had to orbit until the runway was re-opened.

Incident at 12NM TROIS-RIVIÈRES QC (CYRQ)

Despite being authorized and correctly reading back 6000 feet, a Hydravion Aventure Inc. Cessna 550 (C-FYRQ) from Trois-Rivières, QC (CYRQ) to St. Catharines/Niagara, ON (CYSN) continued its climb to 7000 feet. Impact: spacing with a privately registered Cirrus SR20 from Montreal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX) to Charlevoix, QC (CYML) was reduced to 3.1NM and 500 feet, where 5NM and 1000 feet is required. When C-FYRQ was reauthorized to 6000 feet with correct readback, it was then observed in descent to 5000 feet.
UPDATE: TSB report #A20Q0094: C-FYRQ, a privately registered Cessna 550 was conducting a visual flight rules (VFR) flight from Trois-Rivières QC, (CYRQ), to St-Catharines/Niagara District ON, (CYSN). C-FYRQ received and read back the clearance to climb to 6000 ft correctly. ATC noticed that C-FYRQ kept climbing to 7000 ft, and the aircraft was re-authorized to 6000 ft. After reading back the new clearance correctly, C-FYRQ descended to 5000 ft. There was a separation conflict with a privately registered Cirrus SR20 conducting an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight from Montreal/Mirabel QC, (CYMX), to Charlevoix/La Malbaie QC, (CYML). The separation was reduced to 3.1 NM horizontally, and 500 ft vertically while the minimum required separation is 5 NM horizontally and 1000 ft vertically.

The tower successfully established contact at 2150Z, when the aircraft had flown almost 6NM in the zone and had crossed the approach path for an active runway with several aircraft flying in the circuit. No impact to operations.

The Bellanca was immediately instructed to proceed north to free the approach and avoid a wake turbulence loss of separation. No impact to operations.

During the morning inspection at Montreal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX), a vehicle (SAUVETAGE 59) reported concrete debris on Taxiway India, east of Taxiway Delta. This part of Taxiway India was closed by the tower. Airport maintenance removed the debris and inspected Taxiway India. The taxiway re-opened at 1320Z. No impact on operations.

While landing on Runway 24, a Morningstar Air Express Aerospatiale ATR 72-202 (C-FTAR/MAL7069) from Quebec/Jean Lesage, QC (CYQB) to Montreal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX) reported a bird strike. The airport duty manager (ADM) was advised. The runway was inspected and a buzzard carcass was found. Impact: the runway was not available between 2330Z and 2350Z.

Académie Aéronautique advised that after the flight of an Académie Aéronautique Cessna 172N (C-GIGW) from Montreal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX) to Montreal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX), it was noticed that pieces were missing from the pitot (two pieces of metal about two to three inches). Runway 06/24 was closed from 1655Z to 1710Z for inspection. No parts were found. Impact: delay of less than 5 minutes for two departing VFR aircraft.

Incident at In the vicinity of: LACHUTE QC (CSE4)

At 1413Z, a call came from an individual (a pilot) who reported having seen and heard a Cessna type aircraft (C150 or C172) that seemed to be having trouble with its engine and was heading south, either to Lachute, QC (CSE4) or Montreal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX). The person was approximately 38 km north of CSE4. The Area Control Centre (ACC) shift manager was notified. Around 1445Z, the ACC shift manager confirmed that an Aéroclub Gatineau Ottawa Inc. Cessna 150M (C-GEEH) from Ottawa/Gatineau, QC (CYND) to Mont-Joli, QC (CYYY) had an engine failure and landed without damage at CSE4.
