A WestJet Encore de Havilland DHC-8-402 (C-FKWE/WEN3239) was on VFR flight from Kelowna, BC (CYLW) to Edmonton, AB (CYEG) and reported a gear indication. Subsequently, the aircraft declared a PAN PAN and returned to CYLW. WEN3239 landed without incident. Runway was closed for 5 minutes.

Incident at 5411N / 12643W (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)

A North Cariboo Flying Service Beech 200 (NCB911) on a flight from Edmonton Intl, AB (CYEG) to Terrace, BC (CYXT) at FL220 declared a MAYDAY at 2003Z approximately 40NM SSE of Smithers, BC (CYYD). The pilot reported low oil pressure and engine surging and shutting down the engine, and requested clearance to CYYD. The aircraft had 1600 lbs of fuel and 4 souls on board (SOB). No assistance was requested and the aircraft landed safely at CYYD at 2021Z but was disabled on the runway. Runway re-opened at approximately 2040Z.

Vancouver Area Control Centre (CZVR) advised that a North Cariboo Flying Service Ltd. Beech 200 (C-FCGC/NCB911) from Edmonton, AB (CYEG) to Terrace, BC (CYXT) declared MAYDAY and was diverting to Smithers, BC (CYYD). NCB911 reported inbound and advised one engine out, no assistance was required. NCB911 given advisory Runway 33, and local emergency services were placed on standby. NCB911 landed safely at 2020Z. No impact to operations.

A WestJet Encore de Havilland DHC-8-402 (C-GWRE/WEN3166) on a flight from Vancouver Intl, BC (CYVR) to Edmonton Intl, AB (CYEG) reported a bird strike departing Runway 26L. Upon inspection 2 ducks were recovered. Runway 26L re-opened at 0142Z.

WEN3311 was turning to exit Runway 16 at Delta as JZA8418 was crossing the landing threshold. JZA8418 elected to do a go-around due to WEN3311s position.

UPDATE from operator : A Civil Aviation Safety Inspector (CASI) looked into this occurrence. Follow-up included an Aft Entry Door Test and Aft Entry Door Adjustment with no faults found.

Incident at XX960 intersection

A Swoop Boeing 737-800 (WSW267) on a flight from Edmonton Intl, AB (CYEG) to Abbotsford, BC (CYXX) was cleared for the area navigation (RNAV) RNP25 approach and descending according to profile. Traffic observed on Canadian Automated Air Traffic System (CAATS) display by controller was passed to WSW267 along with suggestion to stop descent at 6,000 until clear of traffic. WSW267 climbed 200 in response to a resolution advisory (RA). Once by the traffic, WSW267 resumed descent with no other operational impact.

Anomaly was intermittent and corrected itself once aircraft were on the runway or away from the Apron 3 area.

Traffic was passed by the controller and the WEN3281 flight crew had the departing FLE147 in sight. No operational impact.

After striking geese on departure off Abbotsford, BC (CYXX), a Swoop Boeing 737-800 (WSW312) on a flight from Abbotsford, BC (CYXX) to Edmonton Intl, AB (CYEG) declared an emergency and immediately returned. The aircraft landed safely.
Update TSB Report #A19P0134: C-GXRW, a Boeing 737-800, operated by Swoop Airlines as flight WSW312 from Abbotsford (CYXX) for Edmonton (CYEG), struck geese on the initial climb and the flight crew declared an emergency. The crew informed ATC of a mechanical thrust issue (CFM INTERNATIONAL, CFM56-7B27/E) and elected to return to the point of departure. The aircraft landed without further incident at 15:42Z (11:42 EDT). The aircraft remained on the runway in order to facilitate an inspection by aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF).
UPDATE from Airworthiness: A Civil Aviation Safety Inspector (CASI) looked into this occurrence. The aircraft was inspected by maintenance, with no visible damage noted; however, as thrust was affected, a borescope of #2 engine was performed, with damage to High Pressure Compressor blades found. Engine was replaced and aircraft was returned to service.

The departures of a WestJet Boeing 737-7CT (C-FLWJ/WJA348) from Kelowna, BC (CYLW) to Edmonton, AB (CYEG), a Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-402 (C-GGMU/JZA8415) from Kelowna, BC (CYLW) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR), and a Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-402 (C-GJZK/JZA8417) from Kelowna, BC (CYLW) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR) were delayed. A Canadian North Inc. Boeing 737-36N (C-FKCN/MPE9202) from Calgary, AB (CYYC) to Kelowna, BC (CYLW) was delayed by having to wait for a new gate because of the incident. The threat was deemed not credible at 2135Z, at which point normal operations resumed.

The pilot of WSW123 informed the tower at approximately 3NM final that the approach wasnt working, and requested and was cleared by the tower to make a visual approach to Runway 07. On approach to Runway 07, another aircraft (GUCCI59) from Abbotsford, BC (CYXX) to Fairfield/Travis Air Force Base, CA (KSUU) which was cleared for take off, advised tower that they had a problem and would need to return to the apron. WSW123 was instructed to pull up and go around.
