Diamond DA 20-C1 (C-GGUK) from Pitt Meadows, BC (CYPK) to Pitt Meadows, BC (CYPK), that was in the vicinity. C-GGUK had WSW200 in sight. No operational impact.

Incident at FORT ST. JOHN BC (CYXJ)

At 0048Z, the pilot of an Airco Aircraft Charters Ltd. Beech 100 (AR147B) from Fort St. John, BC (CYXJ) to Edmonton, AB (CYEG) rejected their takeoff from Runway 12 and advised they would be turning around to the threshold to try again. Upon reaching the threshold, they advised they would return to the main apron. Air traffic control (ATC) advised at 0050Z, clearance cancelled at 0051Z. Halfway to the apron, the pilot of AR147B said they were ready to take-off again. Clearance was re-issued at 0053Z and AR147B successfully departed at 0055Z.

A WestJet Boeing 737-6CT (C-GBWS/WJA205) from Edmonton, AB (CYEG) to Kelowna, BC (CYLW) had a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) warning with a Southern Interior Flight Centre (1993) Ltd. Cessna 172S (C-GPWR) from Kelowna, BC (CYLW) to Kelowna, BC (CYLW), operating VFR, 10 miles Southeast in uncontrolled airspace. Traffic was passed to C-GPWR who reported the WJA205 in sight. WJA205 was not yet on tower frequency. WJA205 then checked in and reported the C-GPWR in sight on initial contact.

A WestJet Boeing 737-76N (C-FZWS/WJA717) from Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR) that was waiting to park at Gate 15 reported foreign object debris (FOD) on the apron near Gate 13 where a WestJet Boeing 737-6CT (C-GWJU/WJA141) from Edmonton, AB (CYEG) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR) was parking. Reported to Vancouver Airport Authority (YVRAA) and upon inspection the FOD was determined to originate from WJA141 colliding with WJA717 while passing on the apron. No operational impact.

Incident at BASRA intersection (ATS operating irregularity)

On initial contact, a Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-402 (JZA8190) from Vancouver, BC (CYVR) to Kamloops, BC (CYKA) departing CYVR was cleared to 16 000 feet and vectored northbound. This put the aircraft in conflict with two inbound aircraft on the standard terminal arrival (STAR) descending to 10 000 feet: an Air Canada Airbus A319 (ACA233) from Edmonton, AB (CYEG) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR), and a Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-402 (JZA8189) from Kamloops, BC (CYKA) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR). The aircraft queried the controller about the clearance after the controller passed traffic to the aircraft. The controller re-cleared the departure to 9 000 feet. No impact to operations.

A Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-402 (JZA8086) on a flight from Victoria Intl, BC (CYYJ) to Vancouver Intl, BC (CYVR) landing ahead was told to exit M4 which confused the pilot who was trying to exit M1, which is the taxiway the controller meant to say. JZA8086 missed M1 and exited M3. Due to extra time needed to exit, FLE102 was issued the missed approach.

Incident at EDMONTON INTL AB (CYEG) (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown, FOD (foreign object debris))

After departure, the pilot of a Government Of Canada, Royal Canadian Mounted Police Pilatus PC-12/47E (C-GMPE) from Edmonton, AB (CYEG) to High Level, AB (CYOJ) reported seeing birds on the runway and advised of a possible bird strike. A vehicle (STAFF26) was immediately available and performed a runway inspection. The remains of one bird were found on the runway. No impact to operations.

Incident at EDMONTON INTL AB (CYEG) (ATM - inaccurate aeronautical information)

At Edmonton, AB (CYEG), the Tower ground/clearance delivery frequency lost its transmission capabilities, then the Tower frequency failed completely. Able to use TIL at first, but once Tower frequency failed, the Tower had to use the clearance delivery frequency on the TIL, and advertised on the automatic terminal information service (ATIS) to use the clearance delivery frequency for the CYEG Tower. At 1724Z, all frequencies were restored. Some minor operational delays occurred.

A 10770582 Canada Inc. Cessna 172N (C-GYPB) from Calgary/Springbank, AB (CYBW) to Edmonton/Villeneuve, AB (CZVL) was operating at 8500 VFR and passing through the approach path 4NM East of APKIT. WJA166 was passed traffic. At APKIT, WJA166 reported that they had a traffic advisory and wanted to be vectored around the traffic. WJA166 was vectored off of the RNAV Y approach and cleared for a visual approach. No impact on operations.

A Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-102 (JZA8137) from Edmonton, AB (CYEG) to Calgary, AB (CYYC), arriving at CYYC, responded to a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) resolution advisory (RA) that was in reference to departure traffic, a WestJet Encore Ltd. de Havilland DHC-8-402 (WEN3375) from Calgary, AB (CYYC) to Kelowna, BC (CYLW). JZA8137 was cleared to maintain 10,000 feet mean sea level (MSL), while WEN3375 was cleared to climb and maintain 9000 feet MSL. As JZA8137 approached 10,200 MSL, WEN3375 was passing 8900 MSL. JZA8137 reported a TCAS RA, and began to climb, reaching 10,700 MSL, before resuming its initial clearance to 10,000. Traffic was passed to both aircraft, no operational impact.

Incident at 5NM ELERO intersection

Arrival controller lost contact with a CargoJet Airways Ltd. Boeing 757-200 (CJT919) from Edmonton, AB (CYEG) to Calgary, AB (CYYC) on a heading of 060 on base leg for Runway 17R. CJT919 flew through both 17R and 17L localizers at 7000 feet and contacted arrival again approximately 6NM east of the 17L localizer. CJT919 was then vectored to final for 17R. A Syncrude Canada Ltd. Cessna 560 Citation V (SYN563) from Fort McMurray/Mildred Lake, AB (CER4) to Cornwall, ON (CYCC) that was flying heading 060, also on base leg, 6NM ahead of CJT919, was unable to contact arrival and contacted tower for instructions. Terminal control unit (TCU) relayed an instruction to the tower to turn and clear SYN563 for the visual approach. No loss of separation.
