Incident at GOOSE BAY NL (CYYR)

The ground controller issued taxi clearance to LAL902, DHC 6 300, enroute from Goose Bay (CYYR) to Natuashish (CNH2) via Taxiways Papa, Alpha to hold short Runway 34. The pilot acknowledged the instructions with the hold short restriction. The pilot switched to the tower frequency and the aircraft entered the runway without tower clearance. The tower controller saw the aircraft taxiing onto Runway 34 and issued takeoff clearance.

Incident at NATUASHISH NL (CNH2)

A Medivac, flight enroute from Goose Bay (CYYR) to Natuashish (CNH2), did not close the flight plan as coordinated with Gander Domestic (ETA 13:13Z). Search and Rescue (SAR) was alerted. The aircraft landed safely at the destination. Nil TSB.

Accident at NATUASHISH NL (CNH2) (Overshoot/missed approach, Collision midair)

A Labrador Airways DHC 6 300, landing at Natuashish (CNH2), contacted the upper wing surface aileron of a Provincial Airlines DHC 6 300 with its landing gear tire. The Provincial airlines aircraft that was also landing at Natuashish.. There was no damage to the Labrador Airways aircraft however the Provincial Airlines aircraft experienced damage to the aileron. There were no injuries and both aircraft landed safely in Natuashish. The weather at the time of the accident was clear VFR.
UPDATE TSB: A08A0147: The Provincial Airline DHC-6, and the Labrador Airways DHC-6, were both landing at the Natuashish airport when the right aileron of the Provincial Airline DHC-6 was impacted by the left horizontal stabilizer of the Labrador Airways DHC-6. The Provincial Airline DHC-6 aborted the landing and the Labrador Airways DHC-6 continued and landed without incident. The Provincial Airline DHC-6 subsequently landed without incident. The Air Labrador's left horizontal stabilizer had a tear in the de-ice boot, and the Provincial Airline's right aileron was extensively damaged. There were no injuries on either aircraft. The weather at the time was clear VFR. Additional information to follow.

Incident at Natuashish (CNH2) - Hopedale(CYHO) area (ELT)

Two aircraft reported hearing an ELT on frequency 121.5 in the Natuashish (CNH2) ? Hopedale (CYHO) area. The first aircraft (LAL206) reported at 21 nautical miles north of Hopedale at 7,000 ft. and the second aircraft (SPR941) was 31 nautical miles south of Natuashish at 4,500 ft. The Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC) in Halifax was receiving Search and Rescue Satellite-aided Tracking (SARSAT) hits at 5557.8N06246.0W. Nil TSB.

A Canadian registered Piper PA31, enroute from Natuashish (CNH2) to Goose Bay (CYYR), penetrated the Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) without an active flight plan. Nil TSB.

May 18, 2003

Incident at Natuashish NF.

A DC-3 FQBC was on flight from Goose Bay to Natuashish (CNH2 Sango Bay). After take off from Runway 08 in Goose Bay the left engine began to develop engine problems. The aircraft immediately returned to the airport and landed on Runway 26. The engine had not been secured and was still operating. The aircraft then taxied in on both engines after landing. After shutdown an inspection of the engine revealed that there was metal particles in the engine oil and a decision to replace the engine was made.
