Incident at 4910N / 12300W

While on final for an instrument landing system (ILS) approach, a Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-402 (JZA8212) from Prince George, BC (CYXS) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR) reported a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) resolution advisory (RA) with possible VFR traffic 2000ft underneath. The traffic, a Nautilus Air Ltd. Cessna 172R (C-GHTM) from Vancouver/Boundary Bay, BC (CZBB) to Vancouver/Boundary Bay, BC (CZBB), had been passed prior to the event. JZA8212 climbed to 3200ft prior to commencing descent. No operational impact.

The traffic, a privately registered Cessna 172R from Vancouver/Boundary Bay, BC (CZBB) to Nanaimo, BC (CYCD) was passed and reported in sight.

Pearson, ON (CYYZ) to Timmins/Victor M. Power, ON (CYTS) reported a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) alert (traffic advisory) for traffic at the airport at field elevation. An Ornge Global Air Inc. Pilatus PC-12/47E (PUL103-M) on a flight from Timmins/Victor M. Power, ON (CYTS) was starting up at the time. No impact to operations.

A Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-300 (JZA8642) from London, ON (CYXU) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) conducted an overshoot for Runway 05 in response to a resolution advisory (RA). There was no traffic or explanation as to why the RA occurred. JZA8642 landed on Runway 05 at 1209Z, without further incident. No impact to operations.

TSB Report #A21F0001: C-GAQX, an Air Canada Airbus 319-114, was conducting flight ACA1421 from Juan Gualberto Gómez Intl, Cuba (MUVR) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ). During cruise, approximately 10 nautical miles NNW of Allen C. Perkinson/Blackstone Army Airfield, VA (KBKT) the flight crew received a TCAS RA (resolution advisory) to "climb’". The flight crew followed the RA and the flight landed in CYYZ without further incident.

Incident at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, FL (KFLL)

TSB Report #A21F0002: C-GEGP, an Air Canada Airbus 330-343, was conducting flight ACA0900 from Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, FL (KFLL). On final approach to KFLL, air traffic control warned the flight crew that traffic was crossing the approach path. The flight crew received a TCAS RA (resolution advisory). The flight crew followed the RA and the flight landed in KFLL without further incident.

Power, ON (CYTS) to Val-dOr, QC (CYVO) advised having followed a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) resolution advisory, which was in reference to a single engine aircraft that was 9NM Northwest. The only known traffic was a Panet-Raymond Consulting Inc. Mooney M20F (C-FBIQ) from Val-dOr, QC (CYVO) to Val-dOr, QC (CYVO) in the northeast dial at 30NM, in Serabec training. No other impact on operations.

Pearson Intl, ON (CYYZ) to Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau Intl, QC (CYUL) who was level at 6000 feet. ACA422 mentioned getting a traffic advisory (TA). Traffic exchanged, no impact to operations.

On approach to Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau Intl, QC (CYUL) and at 3 000 feet, an Air Inuit Beech B350 (AIE560) from Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau Intl, QC (CYUL) to Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau Intl, QC (CYUL) had a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) resolution advisory (RA) generated by a Montreal Flying Club Cessna 172S (C-GRDB) from Montreal/St-Hubert, QC (CYHU) to Montreal/St-Hubert, QC (CYHU) that was co-located at 2500 feet. In reaction to the TCAS RA, AIE560 climbed 400 feet. Traffic had been passed and AIE560 had C-GRDB in sight. No impact.

Incident at 12NM MANIWAKI QC (YMW) NDB

A WestJet Boeing 737-7CT (C-FWSF/WJA214) from Calgary, AB (CYYC) to Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) was cleared to FL310 with a correct read back. WJA214 was informed of traffic at FL300. WJA214 reported having the traffic in sight. At FL314, with a descent rate of around 2900/minute, WJA214 advised air traffic control (ATC) of a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) resolution advisory (RA) and climbed a few hundred feet. The other aircraft in the vicinity was a Japan Airlines Boeing 787-9 (JA865J/JAL7) from Boston, MA (KBOS) to Tokyo/Narita Intl, Japan (RJAA). After crossing traffic, WJA214 was observed descending below FL310. No impact.

Air traffic services (ATS) passed the traffic information along to the two aircraft. Despite this, PSC582 received a traffic alert and collision avoidance system resolution advisory (TCAS RA) and decided to pull up. No loss of separation and no other impact on operations.

A 2056548 Alberta Corporation Piper PA-34-220T (C-FXOY) on a VFR flight from Penticton, BC (CYYF) to Pitt Meadows, BC (CYPK), climbing north on the east side of Okanagan Lake, was not on the radar until it turned in front of an Air Partners Corp. Cessna 750 (SDE757) from Calgary, AB (CYYC) to Penticton, BC (CYYF) that was on a VFR approach for Runway 16. SDE757 reported a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) alert. Traffic information and traffic updates were passed both ways. Evasive action was not taken by either aircraft.

Incident at 10NM NE ABBOTSFORD BC (CYXX)

A Swoop Inc. Boeing 737-8CT (WSW406) from Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) to Abbotsford, BC (CYXX), on the required navigation performance (RNP) 25, received a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) traffic advisory at 10NM Northeast (NE) of the airport, and flew the missed approach due to a Pacific Professional Flight Centre Cessna 172M (C-GRXV) from Vancouver/Boundary Bay, BC (CZBB) to Vancouver/Boundary Bay, BC (CZBB) that was outside the zone. C-GRXV was not talking to the tower and was transiting NE. Traffic was passed.

Boeing 767-323 (C-FCCJ/CJT574), from Vancouver, BC (CYVR) to Edmonton, AB (CYEG), which had stopped its climb at 9,000 feet. Traffic was passed to both aircraft when 6NM apart and each aircraft was advised of the other aircrafts cleared altitude.

Beech 1900C (C-FPCO/PCO1537) from Victoria, BC (CYYJ) to Kelowna, BC (CYLW), on approach to Runway 16, was about 12NM final, just north of the control zone, when an unknown target popped up on radar directly behind PCO1537, heading Southeast bound and climbing. PCO1537 climbed and then resumed its approach. The target was eventually tagged up as a SCR Investments Inc. Cessna 525 (C-GPKX) from Vernon, BC (CYVK) to Calgary/Springbank, AB (CYBW).

Incident at VANCOUVER INTL BC (CYVR)

The pilot of a WestJet Encore Ltd. de Havilland DHC-8-402 (C-FENY/WEN3354) from Victoria, BC (CYYJ) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR) reported a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) resolution advisory (RA) with a privately registered Cirrus SR22T on a VFR flight from Qualicum Beach, BC (CAT4) to Vancouver/Boundary Bay, BC (CZBB). The SR22 and WEN3354 passed abeam of each other 1.4NM away and 600 feet. WEN3354 had been cleared to 3000 feet and NAV CANADA Auxiliary Radar Display System (NARDS) showed it level at 2900 feet. The SR22 traffic was level at 2500 feet when tower provided the WEN3354 traffic, and initiated descent to 2300 feet when passing WEN3354. WEN3354 did not deviate from heading or altitude. No operational impact.

ASP508 levelled at 11500ft before resuming their climb. No operational impact.

Boeing 737-36Q (C-GCNK/MPE9104) from Abbotsford, BC (CYXX) to Fort St.John, BC (CYXJ) reported a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) resolution advisory (RA) alert when they departed Runway 07. There were no concerned targets on radar when they departed.

Incident at FORT ST. JOHN BC (CYXJ)

A WestJet Encore Ltd. de Havilland DHC-8-400 (WEN3101) from Calgary, AB (CYYC) to Fort St. John, BC (CYXJ) was on a 15 mile final for Runway 30 and a privately registered Cessna A185E on a flight to Fort St. John, BC (CYXJ) was to the South of the approach for Runway 30. Traffic was passed between the two aircraft and the Cessna A185E stated that they were going to follow in behind WEN3101 and plan for number two. This was then relayed to WEN3101. As the aircrafts got closer, the Cessna A185E started to turn towards the approach of Runway 30. The Cessna A185E was then asked to remain at 033 feet and below the Cessna A185E acknowledged the instruction. This was then relayed to WEN3101. WEN3101 landed and stated that they had a resolution advisory (RA) from the aircraft.

Swearingen SA227-AT (C-GTTM/CA8057) from Kelowna, BC (CYLW) to Kelowna, BC (CYLW) when descending through 7300ft. WEN3255 climbed 300ft and then proceeded on course for their arrival once the conflict was resolved. WEN3255 was passed traffic.

Piper PA-31-325 (C-GLRR) from Prince George, BC (CYXS) to Tsay Keh, BC (CBN9) was climbing without monitoring the frequency. An Air North Charter & Training Ltd. Boeing 737-500 (ANT474) from Watson Lake, YT (CYQH) to Prince George, BC (CYXS) was provided instruction to not descend below 12000ft. The TCAS RA and corrective actions were implemented. No operational impact.

CRN611 continued on right base and landed Runway 16. Two-way traffic had been passed. No operational impact.

At Terrace, BC (CYXT), a Summit Helicopters Bell 407 (C-GCVJ) was holding west of the threshold of Runway 15, waiting for visual sighting of a WestJet Encore de Havilland DHC-8-402 (C-FIWE/WEN3105) from Vancouver, BC (CYVR) to Terrace, BC (CYXT) on final before crossing Runway 15/33. Traffic had been passed to both C-GCVJ and WEN3105, and both acknowledged. C-GCVJ and WEN3105 reported visual sighting of each other. After landing, WEN3105 said they received a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS)/airborne collision avoidance system (ACAS) resolution advisory (RA) from C-GCVJ.

A WestJet Boeing 737-6CT (C-GBWS/WJA205) from Edmonton, AB (CYEG) to Kelowna, BC (CYLW) had a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) warning with a Southern Interior Flight Centre (1993) Ltd. Cessna 172S (C-GPWR) from Kelowna, BC (CYLW) to Kelowna, BC (CYLW), operating VFR, 10 miles Southeast in uncontrolled airspace. Traffic was passed to C-GPWR who reported the WJA205 in sight. WJA205 was not yet on tower frequency. WJA205 then checked in and reported the C-GPWR in sight on initial contact.
