Incident at 12NM MANIWAKI QC (YMW) NDB

A WestJet Boeing 737-7CT (C-FWSF/WJA214) from Calgary, AB (CYYC) to Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) was cleared to FL310 with a correct read back. WJA214 was informed of traffic at FL300. WJA214 reported having the traffic in sight. At FL314, with a descent rate of around 2900/minute, WJA214 advised air traffic control (ATC) of a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) resolution advisory (RA) and climbed a few hundred feet. The other aircraft in the vicinity was a Japan Airlines Boeing 787-9 (JA865J/JAL7) from Boston, MA (KBOS) to Tokyo/Narita Intl, Japan (RJAA). After crossing traffic, WJA214 was observed descending below FL310. No impact.

A Jazz Bombardier CL-600-2D24 (C-FTJZ/JZA8634) from Ottawa/Macdonald-Cartier, ON (CYOW) to Halifax/Stanfield, NS (CYHZ) directly above LAFIT reported a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) advisory. The only traffic in the area was a United Airlines Boeing 777-200 (UAL89) from Newark/Liberty, NJ (KEWR) to Beijing, China (ZBAA) at FL 310. No impact on operations.

A Pascan British Aerospace Jetstream 3212 (C-FPSC/PSC582) from Quebec/Jean Lesage, QC (CYQB) to Montreal/Saint-Hubert, QC (CYHU) was 2 NM on final for Runway 06L. A Cargair Cessna 152 (C-FRUC) from Montreal/Saint-Hubert, QC (CYHU) to Montreal/Saint-Hubert, QC (CYHU) was on base for Runway 06R. Air traffic services (ATS) passed the traffic information along to the two aircraft. Despite this, PSC582 received a traffic alert and collision avoidance system resolution advisory (TCAS RA) and decided to pull up. No loss of separation and no other impact on operations.

A WestJet Encore de Havilland DHC-8-402 (WEN3523) from Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson Intl, ON (CYYZ) at departure from CYUL and on climb to 5 000 ft reported that it had received a traffic alert and collision avoidance system resolution advisory (TCAS RA). The traffic, a First Air Boeing 737-400 (FAB166) level at 6 000 ft, was not a real conflict. No impact on operations.

Separation was not compromised.

Cessna 172S (C-GPWR) from Kelowna, BC (CYLW) to Kelowna, BC (CYLW), operating VFR, 10 miles Southeast in uncontrolled airspace. Traffic was passed to C-GPWR who reported the WJA205 in sight. WJA205 was not yet on tower frequency. WJA205 then checked in and reported the C-GPWR in sight on initial contact.

TSB Report #A20F0055: C-GAQX an Airbus A319-114 flight AC574 operated by Air Canada from Vancouver Intl. Airport (CYVR) BC to San Francisco Intl. Airport (KSFO) CA, experienced a TCAS RA at waypoint CORKK, on approach for KSFO. The crew had a visual on traffic and climbed 1000 feet, and advised ATC. Continuing with the approach, the aircraft was high and fast, causing a missed approach to be carried out, resulting in a flap overspeed of 5-10 knots. The aircraft landed in SFO without further incident.

TSB Report #A20F0022: C-GEZJ, an Air Transat Airbus 321-200, was operating as flight TS939 from Orlando Intl. (KMCO), FL to Montréal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau (CYUL), QC. On departure out of MCO, on radar vectors, the Flight crew were initially given a heading of 030, then instructed to turn left heading 310. As they were passing 7000 ft they received a TCAS RA (resolution advisory) telling them to maintain vertical speed, which was 3000 ft/min. Flight crew complied and flight landed in CYUL uneventfully.

The flight crew complied with the command and descended until clear of conflict at FL325. The flight continued to the destination uneventfully.

Traffic was passed. DAL1319 levelled at 8700 feet.

Incident at SASKATOON / JOHN G. DIEFENBAKER INTL SK (CYXE)

A Mitchinson Flying Service Ltd. Cessna 172N (C-GLVO) from Saskatoon/John G. Diefenbaker, SK (CYXE) to Saskatoon/John G. Diefenbaker, SK (CYXE), on left downwind (DW) for Runway 27, was sequenced number 2 behind Q400. C-GLVO reported Q400 in sight. A Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-402 (C-GBJZ/JZA8584) from Calgary, AB (CYYC) to Saskatoon/John G. Diefenbaker, SK (CYXE) reported a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) resolution advisory (RA) while on final. Known traffic in the area was C-GLVO on the downwind.
UPDATE TSB Report #A20C0021: C-GBJZ, a DHC-8-400 operated by Jazz Aviation LP, was conducting IFR flight JZA584 from Calgary (CYYC), AB to Saskatoon International Airport (CYXE), SK. C-GLVO, a Cessna 172 operated by Mitchinson Aviation Flying Service, was conducting a VFR training flight in vicinity of CYXE. During the circuit for Runway 27 in CYXE, C-GLVO reported to ATC that they had visual contact of JZA584 who was on the approach for Runway 27. Tower then instructed C-GLVO to turn base leg and, when C-GLVO turned base leg, JZA584 reported a TCAS resolution advisory (RA). The crew of JZA584 complied with RA directions and once the RA cleared, JZA584 continued the descent for landing. The aircraft were separated 400 feet vertically and 0.6 miles laterally at the closest point.

The aircraft that caused the RA was an arriving Alkan Air Beech 200 (C-GMOC/AKN513) MEDEVAC from Dawson City, YT (CYDA) to Whitehorse, YT (CYXY) and was observed west of the position of ACA277.

A Havilland DHC-8-402 (C-FIWE/WEN3220) from Grande Prairie, AB (CYQU) to Calgary, AB (CYYC) that was preparing for a landing on Runway 35L initiated a missed approach after responding to a resolution advisory (RA) with a Calgary Police Service Eurocopter EC120B (C-FCPS/HAWC1) from Calgary, AB (CYYC) to Calgary, AB (CYYC) that was working close to the approach. The tower controller passed traffic to both aircraft and traffic reported each other in sight.

A WestJet Boeing 737-6CT (WJA166) from Vancouver, BC (CYVR) to Edmonton, AB (CYEG) was cleared for an area navigation (RNAV) Y Runway 02 approach with a crossing restriction at APKIT of 8000. A 10770582 Canada Inc. Cessna 172N (C-GYPB) from Calgary/Springbank, AB (CYBW) to Edmonton/Villeneuve, AB (CZVL) was operating at 8500 VFR and passing through the approach path 4NM East of APKIT. WJA166 was passed traffic. At APKIT, WJA166 reported that they had a traffic advisory and wanted to be vectored around the traffic. WJA166 was vectored off of the RNAV Y approach and cleared for a visual approach. No impact on operations.

A Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-102 (JZA8137) from Edmonton, AB (CYEG) to Calgary, AB (CYYC), arriving at CYYC, responded to a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) resolution advisory (RA) that was in reference to departure traffic, a WestJet Encore Ltd. de Havilland DHC-8-402 (WEN3375) from Calgary, AB (CYYC) to Kelowna, BC (CYLW). JZA8137 was cleared to maintain 10,000 feet mean sea level (MSL), while WEN3375 was cleared to climb and maintain 9000 feet MSL. As JZA8137 approached 10,200 MSL, WEN3375 was passing 8900 MSL. JZA8137 reported a TCAS RA, and began to climb, reaching 10,700 MSL, before resuming its initial clearance to 10,000. Traffic was passed to both aircraft, no operational impact.

Incident at ROTRI intersection

A Summit Air Ltd. Aerospatiale ATR 72-202 (C-GJPY/BF7112) from Rankin Inlet, NU (CYRT) to Thompson, MB (CYTH) reported final for Runway 24 at ROTRI and reported a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) target. No other traffic was in the zone at the time and no transponder returns were observed on the radar. BF7112 continued on the approach and landed without further incident.

Traffic was a L R Helicopters Robinson R44 II (C-FNPQ) on a flight from Calgary Intl, AB (CYYC) to Calgary Intl, AB (CYYC) at 4800 feet. Traffic was passed. No impact to the operation.

VFR traffic was passed to WJA1978. WJA1978 reported VFR traffic in sight.

A Flair Airlines Boeing 737-400 (FLE806) on a flight from Abbotsford, BC (CYXX) to Calgary Intl, AB (CYYC) was arriving to CYYC Runway 17R via IGVEP5 and was cleared to descend to 10 000. Traffic was passed to WEN3109 and the aircraft reported FLE806 in sight. Subsequently WEN3109 advised of a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) resolution advisory (RA).

Incident at In the vicinity of: SAINT JOHN NB (CYSJ)

A Jazz Bombardier CL-600-2B19 (C-FIJA/JZA8788) from Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) to Saint John, NB (CYSJ) was about to turn a 10 mile final for Runway 05 in CYSJ when they received a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) resolution advisory (RA) for an unknown aircraft 500 feet below them. The aircraft only became visible to flight service station (FSS) on radar after JZA8788 reported the RA. At the time JZA8788 was at 2400ft and the unknown aircraft was at 1900ft. The aircraft was squawking 1200 and appeared to be flying southwest bound along the coast. JZA8788 was able to continue the approach and landed safely at 1341Z.

An Air Transat Boeing 737-800 (TSC387) from Varadero, Cuba (MUVR) to Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau Intl, QC (CYUL) reported that it had received a traffic alert and collision avoidance system resolution advisory (TCAS RA) at 8 000 ft, but it did not change altitude. The other aircraft was level at 7 000 ft. No loss of separation. No impact on operations.
