Accident
at LITTLE GRAND RAPIDS MB (CZGR)
(Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)
At Little Grand Rapids, MB (CZGR), Runway 18/36 was closed due to a disabled aircraft.
Aviation Incident Report: Around 14h45 Central Daylight Time (CDT) on July 4th, 2022, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) unit was advised by Little Grand Rapids, MB (CZGR) Airport Manager of an incident involving a Cessna veering off the main runway. According to a pilot who was in the Airport terminal at the time and witnessed the incident, a Lakeside Aviation Cessna 172M (C-GHXS) “flared” too long while landing and touched down after the main taxiway. After landing, the plane veered on the right side (south) of the runway. It appears the plane briefly lost ground contact on its right side wheel, resulting in the left wing touching the ground and sustaining damage. The plane then went into the ditch, which is covered in vegetation. From inspection, it appears the propeller touched the ground and sustained damage. Airport staff immediately attended to the plane and removed the pilot and passenger. The passenger complained of soreness to the leg and was transported for medical treatment. Upon follow up, the passenger has soreness but no further injuries. The pilot declined medical treatment. A statement from the pilot was obtained. The pilot could not explain what went wrong, stated the plane veered after landing at normal speed and with normal brake application. It was initially suspect that the plane may have blown a tire after landing, however, the plane was pulled out of the ditch and the tires appeared to be fine. It is suspected that the brake system may have been faulty. There was no smoke or fire after the crash.
