An Air Transat Airbus A330-243 (TSC663) from Toussaint Louverture, Haiti (MTPP) to Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) stopped on Runway 24L after landing short of the stop line for the Runway 06R holding bay. It switched to the apron management service frequency while still on the runway.

A Federal Express Corporation McDonnell Douglas MD-11 (N595FE/FDX130), from Memphis, TN (KMEM) to Montréal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX) declared an emergency on the ground due to a fire indication in the cargo hold. Emergency services were notified and Runway 06/24 was closed. After inspection, no fire was found. Approximately 30 minute delay in landing for a Cargojet Airways Boeing 767-300 (CJT347) from Hamilton, ON (CYHM) to Montreal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX) and a Cargojet Airways Boeing 757-200 (CJT991) from Covington/Cincinnati, KY (KCVG) to Montréal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX).

Incident at KUUJJUARAPIK QC (CYGW) (Aerodrome - runway or taxiway surface condition)

While clearing the runway for the arrival of 2 aircraft at 1430Z, a vehicle (GR153) reported that there was an 8-inch gravel swath in the centre of the runway. The 2 aircraft decided to make standby circuits to allow the operators to remove the windrow. An Air Inuit de Havilland DHC-8-300 (AIE802), from Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) to Kuujjuarapik, QC (CYGW) decided to fly directly to their alternate airport after 30 minutes in the holding pattern. An Air Inuit de Havilland DHC-8-300 (AIE880), from La Grande-Rivière, QC (CYGL) to Kuujjuarapik, QC (CYGW) conducted their approach after a 40 minute hold.

A Les Investissements Nolinor Cessna 172L (C-GHWK) from Montréal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX) to Montréal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX) reported that its brakes were seized short of Runway 06 on K. Airport manager advised. Unable to clear through K and part of B was closed due to work. A Nolinor Aviation Boeing 737-33A (C-GNLQ/NRL943) from Val-dOr, QC (CYVO) to Montréal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX) had to clear the runway by B5 and wait on Taxiway 24 platform for approximately 10 minutes before getting back on the runway and clearing by K, after C-GHWK was towed to Taxiway Holding Platform 06.

A Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-402 (C-GGAH/JZA8013), from Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL), to Ottawa/Macdonald-Cartier, ON (CYOW), reported a bird impact on runway 24L. Carcass located. Impact on operations: closure, inspection and cleaning of runway (done in less than 10 minutes). Holding manoeuvre in terminal control unit (TCU) of an Air Canada Airbus A319 (ACA424); landing delayed by 10 minutes. The following aircraft were delayed by a few minutes on the ground: a Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-402 (JZA8790); a Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-402 (JZA8712); a Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-402 (JZA8985); a Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-301 (JZA8686), and an Air Canada Airbus A220-300 (ACA668).

A privately registered, amateur-built Denney Kitfox IV took off and was heading for Gaspé/Michel-Pouliot, QC (CYGP). There was a valid NOTAM in place (i.e. Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) operation at the CYGP airport), and a drone was inbound for CYGP. After several coordinations with the pilot and the centre, the pilot decided to return to land at Fromenteau lake. The drone resumed its approach towards the airport after several minutes in the holding circuit.

During the inspection of Holding Bay 29 at Montreal/Mirabel, QC (CYMX), following high power engine tests of a Nolinor Aviation Boeing 737-229C (C-GNRD), an engine oil spill, as well as a break in the concrete of the holding bay, were discovered by a vehicle (SAU16). The oil was recovered. Impact: A NOTAM was issued to close the holding bay pending expertise and repair of the break in concrete.

A Saint-Hubert Flying School Inc. Cessna 172M (C-GDDK), on short final for Runway 24L, conducted a touch-and-go because the aircraft was too low to be instructed to pull up.

Incident at BAGOTVILLE QC (CYBG)

Aviation Incident Report #16970: A Propair Inc. Beech A100 (C-GJLJ/PRO4650) from Val-dOr, QC (CYVO) to Bagotville, QC (CYBG) checked in at 14NM for the area navigation (RNAV) Runway 11 approach. Two minutes later, a Pascan British Aerospace Jetstream 3212 (C-GPPS/PSC837) from Bagotville, QC (CYBG) to Baie-Comeau, QC (CYBC) called to taxi for a departure from Runway 29, and was told to stand by. One minute later, PSC837 was given its taxi route, which included a "hold short of Runway 29" instruction. PSC837 read back the hold short restriction. At 5.4NM from the threshold, PRO4650 was provided with its landing instruction. Two minutes later, the Ground Controller noticed that PSC837 was rapidly approaching Runway 29. PSC837 confirmed it was clear of Runway 29, but proceeded to continue towards the active runway while PRO4650 was 1.5NM from the threshold. The Ground Controller told the aircraft to stop as it had arrived at the intersection.

Aviation Incident Report #16969: At 1810Z, an Air Inuit Ltd. Boeing 737 (AIE700) from Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) to Puvirnituq, QC (CYPX) called and conducted a hold before landing due to a flap issue. The aircraft landed at 1835Z without any incident or issue. After landing, vehicles (S50 and S60) inspected the runway, and no foreign object debris (FOD) was found. The aircraft departed for La Grande Rivière, QC (CYGL) at 2043Z.

Incident at LA GRANDE RIVIÈRE QC (CYGL) (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)

At 0034Z, an Air Inuit de Havilland DHC-8-102 (C-FDLG/AIE854) from Umiujaq, QC (CYMU) to La Grande Rivière, QC (CYGL) declared an emergency due to an indication of a landing gear problem. Emergency services and the air traffic controller (ATC) were advised. AIE854 landed safely at 0122Z. A runway inspection was carried out, and the runway reopened at 0130Z.
UPDATE: TSB Report #A21Q0013: C-FDLG, a de Havilland DHC-8-102 operated by Air Inuit under call sign AIE854, was on an instrument flight rules flight from Umiujaq, QC (CYMU) to Kuujjuarapik, QC (CYGW). After take-off, the "weight on wheels" warning light came on. The crew decided to divert to La Grande, QC (CYGL), where the company’s maintenance base is located. On approach to CYGL, when selecting the landing gear to extend, an indication appeared noting that the nose wheel was not locked. The crew initiated a holding pattern to assess the situation. An emergency was declared to the CYGL flight service specialist (FSS). The emergency checklist was completed and the landing gear was lowered manually by the crew. The aircraft landed without issue.

At La Grande Rivière, QC (CYGL), an Exact Air Inc. Beech B100 (ET839), while in position for takeoff, advised of the presence of partridges south of the threshold of Runway 31. A vehicle (SVTG4) was notified and an inspection was performed. An Eon Airborne Inc. Piper PA-31T (C-GFON), at the hold line, had to wait a few minutes before taxiing for a take-off from Runway 31 due to the inspection.

Incident at 8NM NE KUUJJUAQ QC (CYVP)

An Air Inuit de Havilland DHC-8-102 (C-FDLG/AIE858) from Kangirsuk, QC (CYAS) to Kuujjuaq, QC (CYVP) advised that it would conduct a missed approach due to a landing gear issue. The aircraft declared an emergency at 0102Z and landed on Runway 25 at 0126Z, without incident. No impact on operations.
UPDATE: TSB Report #A21Q0001: C-FDLG, a de Havilland DHC-8-102 operated by Air Inuit, was on flight AIE858 under instrument flight rules from Kangirsuk, QC(CYAS) to Kuujjuaq, QC (CYVP) with 3 crew members and 7 passengers on board. While the aircraft was on approach for landing at CYVP, the "Gear Unsafe" light for the nose wheel illuminated when the landing gear was selected in the extended position. The crew ascended and an emergency was declared with the Kuujjuaq Flight Service Station (FSS). Once established in a holding pattern, the Quick Reference Manual (QRH) checklist was completed and the landing gear was successfully deployed. The aircraft touched down on Runway 25 without issue.
UPDATE: Aviation Incident Report #16949: The Kuujjuaq, QC (CYVP) Emergency Response Plan was activated by the NAV CANADA Kuujjuaq flight service station (FSS) when the crew of an Air Inuit de Havilland DHC-8-102 (C-FDLG/AIE858) from Kangiqsualujjuaq (Georges River), QC (CYLU) to Kuujjuaq, QC (CYVP) notified the FSS of a landing gear issue. The Kativik Regional Government (KRG) Transportation unit, NAV CANADA, the FSS, the fire department, the Kativik Regional Police Force (KRPF), the health centre (i.e. ambulance), and Air Inuit responded to the emergency. The aircraft landed safely and taxied to the apron on its own power. There were no injuries. A debriefing session was held on January 14, 2021.

A United Parcel Service Airbus A300-600F (N137UP/UPS499) from Vancouver, BC (CYVR) to Louisville, KY (KSDF) was issued a taxi clearance with an instruction to "hold short N7", with a correct readback. The controller observed the aircraft on N7, crossing Runway 26R. The controller instructed an Air Canada Airbus A321-211 (C-GIUB/ACA1041) from Las Vegas, NV (KLAS) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR) to conduct a go-around due to UPS499 being on Runway 26R. UPS499 continued to taxi and departed from Runway 26L. ACA041 was vectored for a second approach and landed on Runway 26R, without further incident, at 0104Z.

As FLE385 started passing D2, the ground controller instructed FLE385 to stop. When traffic in front moved, the aircraft was instructed to taxi to D7 for departure.

A privately registered Cessna 172 on a flight to Victoria, BC (CYYJ), inbound for Runway 09, mistakenly identified Taxiway E for the runway when cleared to land on Runway 09. The Cessna 172 pulled up and overflew an Emil Anderson Air Ltd. Beech 200 (C-GEAG) from Victoria, BC (CYYJ) to Abbotsford, BC (CYXX) that was holding on Echo, ready for departure from Runway 09. The Cessna 172 returned to the airport and landed safely on Runway 09.

Incident at ABBOTSFORD BC (CYXX)

A Canadian Flight Centre Cessna 152 (C-FMBX) from Vancouver/Boundary Bay, BC (CZBB) to Abbotsford, BC (CYXX) landed Runway 19 and then stopped before the hold line on Taxiway B thus remaining on the runway. A Coastal Pacific Aviation Ltd. Cessna 172M (C-GHKJ) on a flight to Abbotsford, BC (CYXX) was instructed to conduct a go around due to C-FMBX being on the runway.

Incident at Kelowna

A Jazz Bombardier CL-600-2D24 (C-FIJZ/JZA8515) from Kelowna, BC (CYLW) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR) was instructed to taxi out via Delta and hold short Alpha, then contact The Tower. JZA8515 taxied into Alpha and held short Runway 16. No operational impact.

Incident at TERRACE BC (CYXT) (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)

A Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-402 (C-GJZY/JZA8239) from Terrace, BC (CYXT) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR) had a nose wheel malfunction and lost steering while taxiing for departure. The aircraft was immobilized across the hold short line for Runway 15/33 and was towed back to the apron at 1750Z.

Incident at Kelowna

A privately registered Cirrus SR22 from Kelowna, BC (CYLW) to Jasper, AB (CYJA) was taxiing south on Fox and told to hold short of Alpha. The aircraft read it back and then taxied onto Alpha. A Jazz de Havilland DHC-8-402 (JZA8411) from Kelowna, BC (CYLW) to Vancouver Intl, BC (CYVR) was short of Alpha on Delta. The Cirrus SR22 had to be instructed to turn right onto Apron 3 to get out of the way.
