Accident at 1NM NE ELKO BC (CBE2)

TSB Report#A18P0076: C-FYIP, a Hughes 369D aircraft operated by Bighorn Helicopters, was conducting external load operations approximately 1 nm North East of Elko/Lionel P. Demers Memorial Airpark, BC (CBE2) when the external load inadvertently released from the sling and flew back into the tail rotor. The pilot felt a vibration, entered autorotation, and made an emergency landing into a meadow. After touchdown, the main rotor contacted the tail boom, causing substantial damage. The pilot was uninjured.

Incident at VANCOUVER INTL BC (CYVR) (Incursion - runway - animal)

The London Air Services Limited Learjet 45 (C-FSDL) from Elko, NV (KEKO) to Vancouver, BC (CYVR) was instructed to overshoot Runway 26R due to a coyote sitting on the runway. Aircraft issued a second approach and landed without further incident at 0320Z. No operational impact.

Incident at CRANBROOK / CANADIAN ROCKIES INTL BC (CYXC)

A privately registered Piper PA-32R-301T from Okotoks Air Ranch, AB (CFX2) to Elko, BC (CBE2) declared Mayday on 121.5 after entering a thundercloud. Calgary Terminal responded on 121.5, radar identified the aircraft and vectored the aircraft clear of cloud. Once clear of cloud pilot reported he was fine to continue on his own to destination.

Accident at CALGARY / OKOTOKS AIR RANCH AB (CFX2)

UPDATE JRCC Trenton SARSUM Report [T2013-00705]: A1 - 02 July at 0353Z. 406 ELT C-GJDC A78DF0172F40261 (504408N 1135600W - Okotoks Air Park). CMCC advised of 406 ELT detection. Later confirmed crash by Edmonton FIC. Pilot ran out of fuel and crashed short of the runway. Minor injuries, aircraft very damaged. Emergency respondents on scene, TSB advised, no assistance required. Case closed.
A Superior Buildings & Design Ltd Piper PA-32RT-300T (C-GJDC) from Elko, BC (CBE2) experienced fuel starvation to their engine and crashed 40' short of runway 16 at Okotoks Airpark, AB (CFX2). No injuries or fatalities. No impact on operations.
UPDATE: TSB REPORT#A13W0090: The privately operated Piper PA-32RT-300T (Turbo Lance II), C-GJDC, was arriving at Okotoks, AB (CFX2) from Elko, BC (CBE2) when the engine (Avco Lycoming TIO-540-S1AD) began to lose power while downwind for Runway 16. The pilot switched fuel tanks with no change. With insufficient power to maintain altitude, the pilot conducted a successful forced landing in a stubble field approximately 1 km north of the airport. Two passengers and two dogs exited the aircraft and additional fuel (approximately 30 litres) was added for an attempt to reposition the aircraft to the airport. Shortly after becoming airborne from the stubble field (1 foot stubble), the aircraft struck a chain link fence and landed heavily short of the runway resulting in substantial damage to the aircraft. The pilot sustained injuries.

Incident at CRANBROOK / CANADIAN ROCKIES INTL BC (CYXC)

An American, individual registered Citabria aircraft, was on a VFR Flight from (Elko) to CYXC (Cranbrook). ELT bearing 104 degrees growing stronger. FSS broadcast on MF (Mandatory Frequency) for aircraft vicinity of CYXC with above aircraft responding on same VDF bearing as ELT. Pilot advised ELT may have been activated. Pilot landed shut off ELT. RCC (Rescue Coordination Centre) advised.
UPDATE from System Safety: No further action required.

Incident at ELKO BC (CBE2)

CMCC trenton formed SARSAT composite over ELKO. High flying aircraft did not hear a tone. No overdues reported by ATC. Local aircraft accounted for. Cranbrook CASARA ground tasked to investigate. Buffalo R456 tasked from Abbotsford but subsequently stood down when source isolated. Source determined to be a privately registered Cessna C150, located at ELKO airfield. ELT was recently serviced and emitted tone while unattened. False alarm, no distress.

Incident at ELKO BC (CBE2)

Tasked CASARA member to home ELT signal at ELKO Aerodrome. ELT was localized to a Privately registered 408538 Alberta Ltd Glider in the hangar. CASARA member contacted owner of glider and he confirmed owner recently changed battery in ELT. The owner stated the glider was recently flown and a hard landing may have activated the ELT. CASARA member turned ELT off and COSPAS-SARSAT confirmed a missed pass signal.

Incident at ECHO VALLEY BC (CBJ4) (Navigation assistance, Diversion)

C-FHTC a Montair Aviation Cessna C172 and C-GMAT a Montair Aviation Cessna C172 were enroute Boundary Bay to Kamloops when they became disoriented. They were unsure of their position and the route to Kamloops. Due to their altitude radar, the controllers were not able to pick up their transponder. With assistance from Kamloops FIC and two other airborne aircraft (Central Montain Air Flight GLR304 and C-GXHL a privately-registered Piper), controllers were able to determine their location. A precautionary landing was made at Elko Valley Ranch by both aircraft. Aircraft owner, Montair Aviation, has been advised.

N77HY called FSS reporting 5 minutes of fuel remaining. Pilot advised of an intended landing at Elko B.C. (BE2). Airport advisories were given; aircraft landed safely and pilot checked in by cell phone to indicate they were ok. OPI: Enforcement

Incident at FORT STEELE

The glider was on a flight from Invermere to Elko and return. For unknown reasons the pilot attempted a landing in a field near Fort Steele. The aircraft recieved some damage but the pilot was not injured.

A nosewheel collapsed on landing causing the pilot to lose control of the aircraft. Substantial damage. The pilot was uninjured.

C172 SKYHAWK C-GWVX - PILOT WAS PRACTICING FORCED LANDINGS WHEN THE A/C STRUCK AND SEVERED POWER LINES. THE A/C LANDED SAFELY AT ELKO. NO INJURIES. NO REPORTED DAMAGE. TIME = 0230Z. ACTION = TAH.
